I just find this humorous as i have observed this action daily for quite some time.

we have a person in our HR department who takes the lunch that is paid for by the company, from the training area after the new hires eat, and promptly carts it down to his office area. ive seen him do this many many times on my going to and from meetings and whatnot. that alone isn't weird but ive also seen him at the end of the day when most people have left, lugging this food out to his vehicle and leaving for the day. i honestly dont care and never thought anything of it until a co-worker of ours was walking with me one day last week and the HR guy was going towards his office with the food. Co-worker says to me "you remember i live by him right? he takes that shit home every day." i just kind of laughed it off.

on a side note, this dude makes so much money its insane. he definitely doesn't need to take food home on the companies dime. it should be going to the city mission we have down the block. and the company orders hundreds of dollars worth of stuff daily to feed around 25 trainees. one day its boxed sandwich lunches, the next its like a taco bar or big pans of lasagna.

you guys ever witness this stuff?

Wouldn't that be stealing or some kind of ethics violation? Why isn't that guy getting in trouble for his behavior?

The chick who got fired from her starter job at Yelp complained that they wouldn't let her take home the company bread in the pantry.

Whenever I've had catered lunch at work either the leftovers remain for the next day or one of the Admins wends out an e-mail letting everyone know they can take whatever is left home. I don't think anyone has been ballsy enough o take all of the leftovers for themselves.

If someone isn't already taking it to the mission, it probably goes in the trash or this dude's house.

On a side note my one buddy works for the Parks &Rec department and hasn't bought toilet paper in 6 years.

Yeah...A couple of the slobs I work with do the same shit.

is it good catered food?

At least its not being wasted.

In grad school I'd walk past the business school building on the way to my office and would stop in almost every day looking for leftovers, coffee/bagels/timbits. Often came away happy!!!

It's poor form to do it on a daily basis.

I mean, we have food catered in from time to time and HR will give away the remainder afterward. Nobody is that absurd to take it all though.

I agree, if it's a lot of food, it should be taken to soup kitchen or something.

I mean there is nothing wrong with being cheap, but if this guy is bringing in the dough and if he is in some leadership position I would hope he is letting people making less an opportunity to swoop on the food before him.

Did you read the part where my co-worker lives by him and sees him take it home?

Nah. It's for the employees, give priority to lowest making earners to take home for themselves or family if no one wants it then yeah it should be up for grabs.

Maybe his home situation isn't as great as your co-worker thinks. I can't help but feel there is some sad story behind it

Equus wants to know if he should keep taking home the company lunches now that somebody saw him do it.

Just a terrible selfish person. I imagine the dude is an asshole most of the time as well. I wouldn't want to be associated with a person like that.

Ask equus.

Equus is he is a terrible selfish person?

it looks low-class to take food from work home. at least in my opinion. even during work-parties, and everyone is taking a snack here or there home, i don't do it. it makes me feel weird.

Yeah. I meant the food would probably end up in the trash if it weren't for him taking it home. Or is he taking it so early in the day that it can't be given to the needy?
