Maybe you'll change your opinion when he tags you with his left jab.

Pound for pound the best middleweight right now, reportedly defeated Arthur Abraham twice in the amateurs.

Cmon' man, he has a good jab i agree but he only has like 14 stoppages on his record and the guy couldn't hurt a natural 147 pounder in De La Hoya. Imo P-Will and Pavlik would beat him, and Martinez would counter punch him all night long.

Beating Aurthur Abraham doesn't mean a whole lot because Abraham doesn't have an amatuer style, he throws looping punches and rely's on his power to finish fights. I like Sturm but untill he fights some of the top guys in his division there's no way I can rank him as the best Middleweight.

What does that mean- best p4p middleweight? Henry Tillman is 2-0 vs Tyson in the amateurs.

I LIKE that expression! : "best pound-for-pound middleweight."

I'm gonna start using that: "best pound-for-pound middleweight", best pound-for-pound heavyweight, etc, it's awesome.

Sturm's got the jab, yep, but he has to start fighting better competition.
He let the massive exposure from the De La Hoya fight (robbery) slip away from him.

I can't see Sturm beating Martinez (though Martinez is gettin' old.)
Can't see Sturm beating Pavlik nor Paul Williams either.
Maybe Sturm's people can't see it either, so they keep him protected in Germany where he's an attraction where they can still make money fighting safer opponents.

He's Top 5 which is pretty damn good, just not good enough to beat the Top 3.

It's similar to Anthony Mundine in Australia.
He's an attraction there and cashes in on safe fights because he knows he can't hang with the real top dogs.

What really gets my goat is a guy that has top notch skills all the way and probably could outbox most of the very best, but simply refuses to step in the ring with them and opts for safer fights instead.

I'm confident that he's going to fight the top guys in the following years. Also his new coach is Freddie Roach who's gonna make him more of a fighter. I believe Sturm has power and we'll see him finish fights with a different training and a different strategy in fights.

Martinez is a dangerous match-up for him, true, but I pick him over Williams and Kelly "Budweiser" Pavlik.

@ enswell: pound for pound best middleweight, p4p middleweight king, use what you want, I basically couldnt care less. ;)

@ Tropics1020: Arthur wouldn't be a pro now if he wouldn't have been a good amateur, right? Of course those two fights are probably 10 years ago, but I think Sturm has AA's number.

@ MeBig: I was talking about the pro's. That's a audacious comparison though... Mike Tyson was far away from beeing Mike Tyson at that time.

I think my point stands regardless...not sure what you mean by "Mike Tyson wasn't Mike Tyson" of course nobody is going to be the same when they're a 16 year old amateur as they are when they're a world-rated pro.....same applies for Sturm, Abraham, anyone...

There aren't many highlights since he did fight under the universium promotional banner. Thankfully those losers will soon to be no more come this time next week.
