Heavyweight legend and current Bellator MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko has opened up about his return to action in February.

Speaking to Lenta.ru earlier, Emelianenko confirmed that his deal with Bellator is for four fights, the first of which takes place this February against Matt Mitrione.

In regards to his American opponent, Fedor pointed to his high percentage of knockouts – but suggested it didn’t concern him.

It's gonna be sad when Javy Ayala knocks him out.

Who are the 4 he is going to face? Mitrone and then....? Anyone becoming a free agent any time soon or some new kid on the block?

    I hope this isn't exclusive.

If he beats Mitrione my guess is they'll match him up with Kongo or Lashley (if they can convince Lashley to take the fight).

If he loses to Mitrione they could do Fedor/Kharitonov, or just say fuck it and match Fedor up with Ken Shamrock.

Man I hate the way Fedor is handling the end of his career. These lower ranked guys seem easier for him on paper but there's so much more risk involved. If he loses he's losing to a bottom of the barrel guy, I'd rather see him lose to a high ranked opponent. These wins do nothing for him. Pedro, monson, iishii, jaideep , and fabio are not the best names to have on your record.

People silly enough to want him in the ufc still, he's about 6/7 years from when he could have compete at that level, Bellator is perfect for Fedor at this point of his career.

If Fedor wins he can fight someone like Rampage, Sonnen or even Kongo. All good fights.

I remember reading some recent interview where Fedor said his contract with Bellator isn't exclusive so he's free to fight at Rizin and in Russia or wherever he wants to.

Then it's only for exclusivity in the States.

Probably, yeah. He had that kind of clause in his PRIDE contract as well where it was stated he could fight in Russia under other promotions.

His PRIDE contract was really interesting from what I read about it in Brian D'Souza's book, "Pound For Pound."

Hmm, which book is that? I haven't heard of it before. His M-1 contract that he was under in Affliction, SF & M-1 was pretty interesting as well.

Now that I googled it and saw the cover of the book it does look quite familiar. I definitely need to check it out.

Huh? Mitrione is top 20 at HW and top 5 in Bellator. This is a pretty high ranking guy. The only higher ranked HW Bellator has is Kongo (or Rampage/King Mo if you want to count them at HW).

Nothing wrong at all with Monson or Rizzo, especially when he fought them and coming off 3 losses. Ishii wasn't experienced but was a gold medal winner and it was a NYE fight. Jaideep and Maldonado aren't the greatest names but Fedor clearly said they were warm up fights to see how he feels. Maldonado is a still active pro-boxer with a 24-0 record and 23 KOs, so he doesn't suck in the stand up. His ground game and tdd sucks though.

It's easier to win the belt in Bellator, because (including Fedor) they only have 4 HWs that could win it (6 if you include Rampage and King Mo), but it's not like the ufc is filled with spring chickens. Guys like Mark Hunt and Arlovski are still in the top 10 in the UFC and Fedor already finished both in the first round. If Fedor trains smart (big if) he could certainly compete in the ufc. The only relatively young HWs they have are Stipe (34), Valasquez (34) and JDS (32) and Travis Browne (34). Those guys would be considered older HWs at any other time in the sport but the ufc sucks at creating new talent so there was never a new generation to replace the older one.
