Fedor Huge Fall From Grace

Once upon a time, Fedor was seen as an invincible, untouchable, P4P Goat; and everyone thought he would retire undefeated and nobody would stand a chance especially A. Silva. We saw Fedor go down hard in Strikeforce, and then get a few good wins; before getting knocked silly by Fabio Maldonado and KO'd by UFC dropouts like Matt Mitrione. How will we look back on Fedor and his career in 10 years?

Umm he went 10 yrs undefeated before losing towards the end of his career. He was an undersized HW at that. He had an awesome career .... Everyone losses if they overstay . Father of time is undefeated.

Fedor had a good, competitive and lucrative career, and like everybody else he got older. He's now fighting because he likes to fight more than he likes his MMA record.

As long as he remains competitive (win some, lose some) and don't get humiliated like Liddell in his last fight, I can respect what he's doing.

It even happened to Ali. Nothing to be ashamed of

I swear to fucking god its absolutely mind boggling how so many supposed mma fans seem to be completely clueless on the concept of aging and fight mileage.

>>>Fighter in prime
MMA fans that never competed in any sports: This guy is the best of all time. undeniable. Absolute GOAT. Would smash x, y, and z all in the same night. If you disagree ur stupid

>>>>fighter starts to slow down after 10+ years of constant fighting
MMA fans that never competed in any sports: OMG who could have seen this coming? guy was always a can anyways tho. so overrated

Not even just 10 years of MMA. Did combat sambo the entire time during his reign and before he started in MMA. That is a shit ton of mileage.

Let’s be honest, by most fans he’ll either not be remembered or be remembered as overrated. On far and away the biggest television stage of his career, he was finished three times in a row. That is what most fans will remember him for.
you have no clue what you are talking about

As the GOAT by legions of fighters and fans.

Every single person I have talked to IRL who is an MMA fan is a a Fedor fan.

Really makes you think.

Remmember GSP tapping to midget Matt Serra's punches and couldnt even finish him in the rematch? What an over rated bum who cant finish a fight cause he's scared.

Uuuhm...

Also, fuck TS

Still the best ever because he was clean, I have him followed by GSP then Jones and Silva.

.
He actually finished him in R2 in the rematch

Fedor was #1 HW between 2004 and 2008. And that's about it. He was never even close to GOAT or P4P#1 or anything. He sure had some talent but his rapid decline at just 34 years old shows he buried it to pursue a career of Putin's bag bunny and religious fanatic.

Next thread: "Was BJ Penn really every that good...?"

If he'd have retired after the Rogers fight people would still be picking him to beat anyone ever head to head, thats how strong his aura of invincibility was. It was sad to see it shattered so brutally in the second half of his career.

Same way we are now 10 years past his prime. As a legend who went on an unprecedented run in a division where even the largest of skill gaps can be rendered irrelevant with one punch.

A man that wrote the blueprint for success at the highest level in MMA and since you want to mention "UFC washout" Mitrione like it means something, also holds wins over almost every UFC HW Champion of his era and even had them either leaving or attempting to leave the UFC for the chance to fight the man they considered the real HW champion.

Much like most great fighters do though he couldn't let go when he should have, have obviously lost the passion after suffering the loss that ended his equally unprecedented Sambo winning streak at the same time he was making the switch from ring to cage and from competing in an environment that valued respect to the North American MMA media circus.

Yet even despite all this he still has a record of 38-6 (the TK "loss being BS as we all know) and 1.

45 fights with only 5 losses at 43 years of age. Is that really a " huge fall from grace"?

Ali is still regarded as one of the best ever as is RJJ despite racking up some losses late in there careers.

Basically if records are all that matters the only guy's that can be considered greats are the Jones, Mayweather, and Khabib types.

In his prime no one could beat him in any weight class and he was always fighting bigger guys. Top three goats gsp, fedor and silva. SIlva last because he popped for being on the goods. GSP first cause he was clean and fedor 2nd cause of the mentioned above but he also might have had some extra stuff going on, not for sure but he did decline after he was forced in a testing pool, could have been age and wear too.
