'The FBI has found no evidence so far that Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people and wounded more than 53 at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, chose the popular establishment because of its gay clientele, said U.S law enforcement officials.

“While there can be no denying the significant impact on the gay community, the investigation hasn’t revealed that he targeted pulse because it was a gay club,” a U.S. law enforcement official said.

Soon after the shooting in the early morning of June 12, top U.S officials such as the FBI director and U.S. attorney general described it as both a hate crime and an act of Islamic terrorism.'

He was motivated by the religion of pieces. /thread

The liberal narrative here was that this was an LGBT issue. As usual, the liberal narrative turned out to be erroneous.

Well, the fact remains the guy targeted a gay club.

Actually Islamophobia caused this. He felt oppressed.

Well, the fact remains the guy targeted a gay club.

Which is irrelevant if they can't trace his motive back to homophobic sentiments. It's as meaningful as saying 'the fact remains the guy targeted a heterosexual club' about some other nightclub attack.

It was homphobic in the sense that Islam is a homophobic religion.

So your assertion is that if there's no evidence he was homophobic the attack was random? That he randomly chose a club he visited? That's hard to believe. Anyway, there is no evidence to rule it out either so you're jumping the gun.

Besides, homophobia isn't the only reason Islamists kill gays. Their religious text calls for it.

The fact that it wasn't specifically an attack on homosexuals, for being homosexuals, does not mean it was a random attack. It was a Muslim terrorist attack against Americans for the ISIS cause. Clinging to the fact that it was a gay club is as asinine as saying 'the fact remains, the Boston Marathon bombers attacked runners'.

That is not a fact. They didn't find evidence that rules out it was an attack on gays either. You're jumping the gun.

That is a fact. The man himself Omar Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS. Clinging to the fact that it was a gay club is as asinine as saying 'the fact remains, the Boston Marathon bombers attacked runners'.

How does pledging his allegiance to ISIS prove that gays were not specifically targeted? You do know how Islamists feel about gays, right? They murder gay muslims!

Nah man. This guy is all about objectivity, he is quick to condemn others (stupid liberals) of their confirmation bias. He has no agenda to push here at all.

That was in relation to this 'It was a Muslim terrorist attack against Americans for the ISIS cause.' So you acknowledge this is reality?

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that this was an attack on homosexuals because they're homosexual. You assumed that just because the nature of the club, which is silly. It would be just as silly to automatically assume that sexual identification was a factor in an attack against a heterosexual nightclub.

'They murder gay Muslims!' What's your point? Muslim terrorists murder human beings in general. The fact that this club was geared towards a specific group does not mean he targeted the club for that reason. You had a number of people come out and say they had seen Omar Mateen around the gay scene. One man even did an interview saying he was his lover. If any of that was true, the FBI wouldn't have made the statement that they've found no evidence thus far.

I actually think you guys are on the same side of the fence... @Coolidge is just calling into question the narrative of he was a self hating deep in the closet homosexual.

It's only homophobic if you kill 50 people in a gay club.

Dang, that was close.

Exactly.

That narrative was designed to downplay the role of Islam and ISIS and shift the focus to LGBT victimhood.

ISIS throws gays off of buildings. That gay Muslim dude was targeting gays. I do believe there's a reason he was shooting that club.
