More than half of the memos former FBI chief James Comey wrote as personal recollections of his conversations with President Trump about the Russia investigation have been determined to contain classified information, according to interviews with officials familiar with the documents.

This revelation raises the possibility that Comey broke his own agency’s rules and ignored the same security protocol that he publicly criticized Hillary Clinton for in the waning days of the 2016 presidential election.

Comey testified last month he considered the memos to be personal documents and that he shared at least one of them with a Columbia University lawyer friend. He asked that lawyer to leak information from one memo to the news media in hopes of increasing pressure to get a special prosecutor named in the Russia case after Comey was fired as FBI director.

Remember just last month when the libs were saying Comey did nothing wrong, and that Trump and his lawyers were wrong to Comey a leaker of classified info? Lol.Turns out more than half of his memo contained classified information.

EDIT: Thread title changed so the usually shill crowd will stop deflecting and actually talk about the content of the article.

I'm not saying that he didn't release something that was classified, but there should be more information before the claim is made. One, it seems like Comey specifically made up unclassified versions of the reports with the help of his office. So, while they should be FBI property, they might not actually contain classified material. Also, I still haven't seen how much of the memo was actually given to his friend in that college. So yes, some of the memo was classified material, but it remains to be seen if anything classified was released.

I would just find it odd that an FBI director wouldn't be intimately aware of what he can and cannot release. I think the best thing would be a formal investigation and see what they turn up. If he actually released classified material then he should be prosecuted like anyone else.

I am just wondering how that dude could have made it to the top of the FBI?

The level of incompetence displayed would make him a top candidate to join the Trump administration.

If it were anyone else, yeah. This is James Comey though. I know he appears professional, but this guy is an attention whore, plain and simple. Dude is addicted to the spotlight, and it appears he might have just fucked himself trying to grab a little bit more of it.

Are you serious? You realize that he was well loved by the FBI right? Even his replacement admitted that he had widespread support in the department. He was highly competent, he was just undermined by his boss Loretta Lynch.

I happen to completely disagree with that statement. Nothing I've seen from him indicates he loves the spotlight. He was more thrust into it by circumstance.

In this camp. He was a classification authority for the FBI, he's well aware of what data classification consists of. If the article is right, then the memos had classification headers indicating as such.

Either there were two sets of memos, or he perjured himself. Given that he spoke with Mueller before his testimony though, I have a hard time thinking it was perjury unless this was something they worked out beforehand. I feel like there's something we're not privy to that makes these events add up.

He's said before that he wrote up a set of unclassified memos. I'm imagining those are the ones released, but anything is possible. If he released classified information to a citizen, then he should be prosecuted. If he didn't, then this is a big nothingburger. I'd just like to wait for more information before I start slamming a guy who seems pretty fair throughout this entire thing. He didn't even slam Trump when he had the opportunity. He seems like one of the few credible people left in the discussion.

Take your binders off then. The Clinton hearing. The letter weeks before the election. This.

There's a pattern there. James Comey loves it when America talks about James Comey.

There was zero reason to leak the memo other than to get his name out there. If he believed Trump did something wrong, he should have just taken the memos to Congress, not the NYT. Congress btw had to beg and plead for months to get copies of the memos.

Was he confirmed to have written two sets? That's been a point of confusion on this, i've heard it both ways. If he did, then this is almost assuredly character assassination from Trump and sons, but if not, it doesn't look very good for Comey.

Again though, the detail for me that sticks out is that they had headers. I'm not arguing incompetence, I believe outright that he knows/knew what he was doing. If they had classification headers then they were classified accordingly, but he outright stated his personal memos were unclassified. There's really one plausible scenario that exists for both of those to be true.
