Favourite Godfather Movie?

I couldn't get past the first fifteen minutes of number 2. They were in Italy and it just started way to show and boring. Maybe I need to go back and try and watch it or fast forward.

I think Part I and II are equal in quality, but a lot of people will say Part II is better. I prefer watching Part 1, I like the story the most and I can watch it a couple times a week without getting tired of it.

Though it is less "mafiosa" and doesnt have as much action, as a movie, it is much much better than the first.

whenever these Godfather threads came up, I use to always vote for part 1


After re-watching the first two films recently, I'm going to change my opinion to part 2 being the strongest film. Godfather 1 obviously has some iconic characters in Vito and Sonny and many scenes that will forever be remembered by many.

But I thought part 2 was a better film overall.

The second movie's strength, in my opinion, comes from the DeNiro scenes as young Vito.

Ginger, as a character, ruins Casino for me. She's more infuriating than Corporal Upham in Saving Private Ryan.

pretty weird thread. I watched 1 yesterday and 2 today. I've been reading the imbd trivia and godfather wiki all day. There's a ton of backstory not in the movie and that enhances the story a lot. There's also some cool deleted scenes on youtube. I like the one of Don Fanucci being attacked that was cut. It explains a good bit of Vito's actions.

I had seen both a few times but probably haven't watched either in almost 15 years. I thought 1 was vastly superior. Two was very good. The flashbacks are the highlight but i wasn't as much a fan of the Cuba/Miami stuff and political things. It dragged on in the middle for a bit.

I think the older setting is just cooler at the end of the day. The old NY mafia stuff is better than the newer Mafia settings.
