Okay, so the Tekken thread has got me thinking... Who is your favorite video game character based on a grappling sport? Some choices...

Blue Mary - Sambo

Dragunov - Combat Sambo

Abel - Combat Sambo

King/Armor King - Pro Wrestling

El Fuego - Lucha Libre

Goh - Judo

Paul - Judo

Zangief - Sambo/Pro Wrestling

Bayman - Sambo

Marduk - Vale Tudo

Asuka - Aikido

Or name your own...

I'd go with Dragunov, I'm a Tekken fanboy and Drag has some of the more realistic Sambo moves in a video game to date.

Old thread bump because Street Fighter released their trailer for a Brazilian girl who does "Matsuda" Jiu Jitsu. Not enough butt scooting for me...

I was always a Goh fan. I liked the fact that you could either throw off an engagement or clinch up and then get your opponent moving to throw them. I feel like whoever designed his move set was definitely a Judoka.

Rainbow Mika FTW

and obviously:

Blue Mary because she taught Chonan how to flying scissor heel hook before PRIDE was a thing, and was repping Sambo before Fedor or Fujii were famous.

Actually seeing this made me wonder if anyone else connected her flying leg locks with Anderson's famous loss, so I googled and it came up with a 10 year old Sherdog post. I clicked the link and it turned out it was my post, complete with dorky crushing on a schoolmate who 'looked like her'. Lulz

Bob haircuts are sexy on women in good shape.

Goh, because he actually felt like he was built around working for the throw.

Blanka from street fighter you would be surprised at how well he would do and you would probably be shocked too!

King and Goh. Its been awhile since I played Street Fighter, but was Alex from 3rd Strike a grappler?

I always go with the Muay Thai characters in these games, because none of the grapplers actually feel like their moves came naturally.

I never played a single Virtua Fighter game though, so I'm kinda curious about Goh.

snake eyez is a really good Zangief player who's been tearing it up at EVO and other comps in both SF4, SSF4 and Ultra. I'm really hoping they've made the character strong for 5 because the graphics they've demoed have a really nice level of fluidity and clarity and realism to them while still maintaining that superhero martial arts video.

also, that pull-n-throw harai ryu does as one of his throws is really fun.

also also, WHAT ABOUT HAKAN?

and thats the bottom line.... cuz Stone Cold said so.

sorry but the pro wrestling fan in me had a moment there.

Virtua Fighter 4 Goh trumps all when it comes to throws, though he needs more submissions.

Wolf and Taka are decent grapplers also.

Tekken-

Paul-RNC

King- chain suplexes are teh bomb

Marduk- best double leg in a video game

Nina- scissors takedown into subs

Used to be King for the longest time, now it's Goh, Vanessa, or Armor King.

Honorable mention to the greatest Judoka to ever grace a video game

Although thinking more about it, I'm partial to Jyoji Umekawa from Garouden Breakblow: Fist Or Twist. Just because until the UFC games came out he was the only character to do an anaconda choke in a fighting game.

Could anyone but a grappler do this (sorry for the lousy quality)?

Also, I'd have to agree that Goh, King, and Goro are great. Alex is pretty good as well, and it's a shame he wasn't included in SF4. Hopefully he'll be back in SF5.

Sabin.

There's the suplex, and then there's suplex'ing a ghost train.

He's even got a haircut like a young Dirty Holt.
