Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) takes his men behind enemy lines to find Private James Ryan, whose three brothers have been killed in combat. Surrounded by the brutal realties of war, while searching for Ryan, each man embarks upon a personal journey and discovers their own strength to triumph over an uncertain future with honor, decency and courage.

Shakespeare in love? The one that won best picture? The one that is one of the best written movies of all time? That masterfully pulls from Shakespeare's writings and life and crafts an original and wonderful story?

It's either The Thin Red Line or Dark City for me. Love both movies, but it's very subjective of course.
Voted for Dark City cause I will never get that movie out of my head.

Saving Private Ryan would be the best movie in most years.

    Wow that’s a tough year.

My favorite is Blade and a bunch of them fighting for second.

Not the “Best” movie obviously but my “favorite” out of that group.

Damn, I did not realize 1998 had so many great movies. I picked The Big Lebowksi but there are so many great ones and even some awesome sleepers like Dark City.

Quick edit Ronin was a great movie that many people have never heard of also and they had some great car chase scenes.

Saving Private Ryan is a cinematic masterpiece. Most realistic scene of war ever when they stormed the beach. Great cast, acting, plot. Perfect movie.
Dark City is in my top 10 in Sci Fi.

Ronin needed sequels. DeNiro was very badass.

Off that list, American History X, but Dark City is a close second
