If some farmers cant eat, I have no issue with them getting foodstamps. If their business fails, I am against giving them millions to prop it up.

Subsidies and tax breaks to small farms to diversify agriculture, keep corporations from monopolizing farmlands and dominating local markets, and stabilize outputs is still smart. Don't need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

And the billions in subsidies to offset trade losses has been pretty roundly criticized as monumentally stupid. But that's not on farmers. It's on our moron president.

Liberals may not support it if you call it corporate welfare, but that’s what farm subsidies is.

Leaving political views aside, everyone who understands basic economics should oppose this (there is consensus among economists of all political views that tariffs are stupid). The problem isn’t necessarily farm subsidies (we all want cheap food) it’s the stupid fucking tariffs, which lead to China’s tariffs on our farm exports, that is causing the issue. It’s moronic policy with no upside.

The problem with subsidizing agriculture is that it all goes to the top. It is then used to drive the smaller farmers under. It is pretty gross what has been happening to small farms across the country.
