farewell!

I can't see how posting here, especially in the S&P could get you in trouble. There are websites you should avoid, and usually it just takes common sense to figure out which ones. You do have to be careful what you say on any website though. I have the same problem as well being a pilot. If I started telling stories about unsafe procedures etc on any web forum, I could be in a world of hurt. Just recently someone got in trouble doing just such a thing (and that was on a pilot website). Another guy had to take a 701 ride with the FAA bragging about how he dropped a plane into a field just after running out of fuel. You get the idea...

We have to pass the typical 10 year background checks and all that other stuff... and with all of that in place I am confident wouldn't get in trouble posting on Sherdog.

Just stuff to think about, since you enjoy this site and all.

Take care.

Congrats on the job B. Don't be a phgt. Keep posting. Responding to your PM now.

get a new account and only post from an internet cafe wearing an elaborate disguise.

The fuck? Do you live in Burma? Get a union.

thats retarded. leaving Sherdog because your scared that you will get fired from sharing strength and conditioning knowledge? I disagree a lot but good luck with your new job.

i've gotten a position with the local police department's crime lab so from here on out i'm keeping it clean with all my internet activity since I have no real idea how close of tabs big brother will be keeping on me.

So no more rapping on Sherdog about the children you have chained in the basement? Awww, this sucks :(

one of my coworkers said 2 people got fired for having either myspace or facebook, and the only people on their friends list were family members and they had no content on their page that could even begin to be considered shady. pretty weak, i know.

That sounds... illegal. Compared to how much American patriotism is based on yelling about freedom, you guys sure don't actually have a lot of it.

While I agree with you, if you'd read the thread more carefully you'd realize that we're talking about Kanada.

Well, regardless of it being Canada, rather than the United States, I don't see a real issue. I can see potential issues with social networking sites, especially since they're easily connected to you, I.e. you show up in a google search. But with Sherdog, unless you post your real name, or give away sufficient personal information, you're anonymous unless they bother to track your internet activity via you're ISP, and that itself can be circumvented, although somebody might think you were up to something worse than posting on Sherdog. Besides which, if they were actually keeping track of you via ISP, then that brings up a host of other concerns, like what else they might be keeping tabs on? and are they going to be keeping track of the internet porn you watch? But I don't think that's very likely.

The most reasonable course of action would be to read any and all guidelines about employee rules, expectations etc, and if nothing in particular is said that would make posting on Sherdog seem like a bad idea, then ask a superior about your concerns regarding the stories you've heard.

See ya, gza. Good luck and so on.

PS: I always pronounced your name "geeza". You know, like some funny talking British dude (or "chap" or whatever they're called over there) saying geezer. Yeah.... good times.... look, a pony.

Well one concern I've heard that police departments had was that a cop could be found on myspace/facebook and use that against them somehow personally. Finding their family, home, friends, etc. Think that's the real reason if its a concern at the lab. Doubt sherdog would be a problem.

In any case, even though I don't know you too well, good luck in the lab. Sounds like a job that will get you somewhere.

For US gov't employees: The first amendment applies to everybody, period. As long as you aren't specifically talking about your employer in a way that can be construed as in an official capacity then you cannot be fired anymore for having an internet conversation than you can for talking on the telephone. Don't post anything that you wouldn't want public, just like anything else you say and do, and you will be fine.
