i'm heading to Fairtex bangplee in a couple months and was wondering about the store there and selection of gear. I plan on buying all new gear when I get there but wanted to know how much of selection they have there and how long it takes to get custom gear made. If you've been there please chime in and let me know what you thought.

Thanks

I've been there! They make some of the stuff right there on site-you will see what I mean when you go to the shop. I'm not sure if they make all the gear there. If you plan to stay for a while it shouldnt be a problem to get the gear you want if they dont have it in stock. It took a couple days to get the shorts I wanted. Some stuff will be in stock. The beauty is in the price. I paid $15 per pair of satin Thai shorts. But that was '05-'06 when I was there. Hope that helps.

I heard the prices have go up by quite a bit, but are still cheaper than online.

The prices are still very very cheap compared to prices you get online (UK and US etc).

But the gear from the other leading brands is still a lot cheaper, Twins, Raja, King, Windy etc.

It really comes down to whether you want more traditional thai shorts that a thai would wear, or a more western take on the classic thai shorts. Since I am from England and am not thai, I would rather go with Fairtex. But outside of the Fairtex camp you see virtually none of the thais wearing Fairtex, its all the above mentioned brands plus a lot of even lesser known but perfectly good quality brands like mauythai, thaiboxing and others.

Not only are the Thais not wearing Fairtex shorts, they're no using their gear either. TBH, I see it as a largely gimmicky brand made for export.
