failure on bodyweight exercises

Carryover into the back squat doesn't really matter if you're not a powerlifter. What does matter is carry over into daily activities and sports such as grappling. And pistols do give you real strength benefits. It's a somewhat different movement than the back squat just because there is no carry over doesn't make it worthless. Back squat just happens to be the leg exercise that most people can move the most weight with. But unless you are a powerlifter, who cares? Just because you can't move as much weight with one medium of strength training doesn't mean you become weaker overall.
