fact about khabib that may surprise you

Haha I can brother, haven't since I was a child though. Sorry for quoting these individually by post I'm on my phone and don't know how to do it all in one post.

I'm curious. Being that you're Georgian you can answer: in what other sports do Georgians excel? Honest question. I just want to know if other Nations in that region tend to gravitate toward the same kind of sports. I know I can google it, but I'd rather have a Georgian answer.

Unfortunately other than grappling sports not many, we're decent in soccer and have had some great players excell at the top but otherwise nothing. We do have Zaza Pachulia playing for the Bucks but he's a can.

Agreed. Can you lezginka? But Georgia are great at wrestling and Judo, Georgians are also nice people :D

Had never heard of lezginka but damn, if Khabib would bust out with some of this shit after his wins, he'd be a whole lot more popular and would make me even more of a fan.

Puts the Rothwell post-Overeem celebration dance to shame.

Wikipedia, anybody can edit that shit

I am from the Caucus region of Georgia and can confirm, we are stronger than you're average white boys. My first year at wrestling in the 7th grade here in the states my coach would get pissed at me because I never listened to him or cared about technique and instead would hip toss to pin everyone to victory with relative ease.

Edit: Also we're particularly dope in Judo.

It's not that you're wrong in your point, it's just that this example is really stupid. 7th grade kids aren't really a good indicator for ability. That said, there are two Georgian that are up in the top 25 in the highest level of sumo, one being top 10. Only other guys in the top 35 outside of Mongolia and Japan are a guy from Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, and Egypt.

Is it really that stupid though, sure I could have never mentioned myself at all and have just stated facts about how good we are as a country instead of personal experience but I'll admit I wanted to toot my own horn for a bit. Fact is I literally went from 24/7 video games/studying in the 7th grade to hip tossing everybody I faced and going undefeated in my first year of wrestling with ease. Sure I didn't need to mention it on here but whatever, sometimes bragging a bit to random online forum members seems like not such a bad thing to do.

In all seriousness though, Georgians are natural grapplers and we even have our own version of wrestling called Georgian Tradititional Wrestling which is an age old pastime and it is very simple to pick up. Basically its whoever throws their opponent first wins, here's a video:

People do this in the rural regions of the country because they think it's fun, no other reason.

after reading khabib's wikipedia page(i know. it may not be reliable), i've read that after having trained for 5 years in Freestyle Wrestling without significant success, Nurmagomedov studied Judo under black belt Dzafar Dzafarov.

Did I just read that right? He was unsuccessful at freestyle wrestling and is more of a judo guy?

russian/iranian wrestlers make USA wrestlers look like nothing.

Yea wrestling is kind of funny, cause you don't necessarily need to be an olympian to do well wrestling in MMA. A great example would be the Rashad vs. Phil Davis. Davis was the much more successful amateur wrestler, but Rashad outwrestled him in their fight.

It seems, at least me a layman, that it's more about who can transition their wrestling better to MMA than who was more successful prior to their MMA run.

I've seen the Burliest, Manliest, Gnarliest Sambo Guys on the planet break their opponents in half only to jump up and bust out those dances with spins that would trip professional ballerinas. It's fucking adorable

They are phenomenal wrestlers, no doubt, but as mentioned, wrestling is a lot bigger in those regions than in the US. It's the same with soccer/futbol in Brasil, England, etc. Obviously people like those sports here in the US too, but they are far from being as big here as in other parts of the world. If a country only focuses on one sport, ahem, Canada, hehe, then of course they're usually going to be better than areas that don't focus as much on them. And i don't mean that in a negative/excuse type of way, i admire the skill of those athletes from other parts of the world.

Oddly enough, soccer for children is popular here, but at a certain age just seems to die off. It's kind of weird.

I guess that's why you guys do so well in weightlifting.

Oh wait.

Ahh boy, I guess. You're one of my favorite trolls on here and sometimes when you post genuine posts I admire em so I'll waste the 2 minutes of my time that it takes to search thenpost this link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_at_the_Olympics

Then the 10 seconds that it takes to type the fact that we have a population of 4.5 million people while the USA has a population of 318 million people.

And then also waste another 10 seconds of my time informing you that many of the "Russians" you thought were winning golds pre-1990 were actually Georgians like this guy :

and this guy

Eh, 2 gold medals since 1991 really isn't that good, regardless of population. Small countries always try and pull that card, but it's meaningless, really. I believe it's Grenada that was the P4P most athletic country in the world at the 2012 Olympics because they have a small population and got 1 medal. But what does that really mean, a small country getting a medal? It means there's at least one really athletic dude that was born there; it doesn't speak to the inherent qualities of the people, biologically speaking, or even sport culture. There are remarkable individuals born in every country. It's only when you have consistent success that it can be said a whole country is good at something.

Also, the Olympics aren't everything when it comes to wrestling. Examine world championships, too.
