You are supposed to be a top level professional athlete. You have a team of sport science professionals around you, multiple coaches, nutritionist, head coach, strength and conditioning, massage, physio, sport psychologists, everyone working to get you as ready as you can be. You have MONTHS to prepare.

When you miss weight you are disrespecting your opponent, his whole team and all the fans. People have booked, paid and travelled to see this event, your opponent's whole team has run a full camp and hundreds if not thousands of employees from security to promoters to cleaners have done their jobs to get everything ready and you can't even make weight like some kind of bum. People giving themselves seizures or complaining there's no hot water or just rolling up multiple pounds overweight like f*ck you the rules don't apply to me lol.

Sick of this whackness your opponent should get paid for a win and fighters who do this need to get penalised severely.

it's no excuse but as you get older it's harder to make weight...and he's old as dirt.

This is the first time he missed weight

Dude accepted the fight on 4 weeks notice.

Not one that likes that sh*t either, but homie literally had 4 weeks to prepare.

MONTHS? Romero took this fight on 4 weeks notice.

this ^^^^

he just took the fight to salvage the card and did the best he could

he's always made weight -- give him a break

Usually, when life-long weight cutters (like Romero) miss weight, its a sign that an injury happened in camp (usually a leg injury) but they dont want to cancel the fight.

Maybe Romero wasnt able to train for the last week or two of his camp but he doesnt want to reveal it....

I know he had only 4 weeks to prepare, but you are not cutting weight for 4 weeks.
If you are so out of shape you can't make weight, how the hell can you fix your cardio in 4 weeks so you can do 5 rounds against Rockhold?

Romero has never missed weight on a full camp so I'm willing to give him thea benefit of the doubt this time

If it becomes a consistent issue that's a different thing but he saved what would have been a poor card without the main event so fuck it

People who fill in on short notice get leniency on this. The whole weight cutting should be more like One rules then fighters wouldn't be safer and at their more natural weights.

No I will not give him a break. This is top level, professional sports. The rules have to be taken seriously. Even a 1 or 2% difference can make all the difference.

As I said above the fighter and all his professional team members around him know exactly what he is capable of and what he isn't. If you can't make the weight don't take the fight. They have to have known for AT LEAST a week that he was unlikely to make weight and they probably haven't even been trying to make it for some time. They just take the contract, take the money and say nothing then rock up way overweight and try to pressurise their opponent into taking an unfair fight. It's bullsh*t.

Hes stepping in to save the card.

Rockhold may have to cut more but he had the advantage of a longer training camp.

No leniency this is professional combat sports at the top level. You don't make weight f*ck off, you have no excuse unless it's literally like a 48 hour replacement.

4 weeks and you can't make weight, come on man. 4 weeks.

the guys 40 years old ... this is a short cut to the top for him

he owed it to himself to try

It was short notice for romero so i could give him the benefit of the doubt.

But i agree this is a big problem overall. It's not good for their health, for the fans or for the business. Stop cutting 15% of your body weight to get some little advantage. If you're needing to cut that much you are probably in the wrong weight class.

You're still gonna watch the fight

Yoel took this fight on 4 weeks notice.

It is pretty bad, And migh be a huge advantage for the guy not making weight. He will obviously be bigger, but als less drained, And that might make a huge difference.

Taking away a point for every 2lb would be a fair punishment.

OOOGA BOOOGA
THE RITUAL HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED CORRECTLY
Weight cutting is absolutely retarded.

You've got to cut Romero some slack. He has taken the fight at relatively short notice.

4 weeks notice dude. Not the normal 12. That's a huge difference. In late fill in fights they should get some slack cut. That's why I want to do away with weight cutting entire like one fc
