Was a little harder than I expected. I see he pretty much went about 130-2-1 avenging both losses and draw before he first retired. The problem is, I'm not very familiar whatsoever with the fighters he fought. Also, most videos on youtube posted are during the 50s when he was probably past his prime by that time. What are some of his best matches?

Ooooh! A topic about boxing-related gay pornography?!?!? Exploring Sugar Ray Robinson's a good one, but I can think of some better ones:
  • The Cut Man and the Butt Man
  • Blowing Below the Belt
  • Inside the Copper Ring
  • Southpaw Surprise
  • DeMarcus Corley: My Story
  • Freddie Roach's Massage Secrets Revealed: Featuring Zerefino Jackson
  • Never Hook With a Gay Hooker
  • Going Down for the Count
  • Last Man Cramming

I'm not sure if you're asking for his best matches at welter, or just overall.

I hear that there is little to no footage of him at 147 (which was his best weight)...

As Hester said there's almost no fights available of him at welter (where he was his most dominant).

His most exciting fights probably came at the latter end of his career at middle, including fighters like LaMotta, Fullmer and Turpin. Both of his bouts with Basillio were also legendary.

There's some film of Robinson in the 1939 N.Y. Golden Gloves......And a couple of fights at welterweight (not as much as we would've liked)......Tony Riccio being one of them. There is some film of him fighting Georgie Abrams when he first made the climb to MW.

Robinson at his best ?.......Try Robinson vs. Fusari......Robinson vs. LaMotta VI......Robinson vs. Turpin II.....

Robinson had a European tour after beating LaMotta in 1951.....He fought a series of fights throughout Europe against inconsequential opponents and won most of those fights spectacularly......All of those fights were filmed......

Then he partied his ass off in Paris before fighting Randy Turpin.......and made the trip home to America sans title belt.

If you want footage of Ray Robinson, try some vhs stuff. You tube has limited selection. And it's a well known fact that the shakespeare of boxing had few of his fights filmed in his prime. Now, some guys here have said that many of them were but are being held somewhere, I don't believe that. We can see how great he must have been by using the footage we do have, a better fighter we'll probably never see in our lifetimes. The special thing was he was very good in every department, the closest thing to perfect we've ever seen. He was fast, powerful, durable, and don't get me started on the intagibles, he had those covered in every department. I have to say he is my second favorite fighter after
Ali and I admire all the greats a ton.

I am sure there is some private collector/seller that has at least one of his welterweight fights. However, it would take alot of money (alot) to get them to release it...

YouTube has some highlights of some of Robinson's welterweight fights from 1946 on their site somewhere, including a bit from the Angott fight which I've seen a lot more of (apx 10 minutes or so).

I have some of Robinson's lightweight stuff somewhere, and I used to know someone who had him at welterweight.

This older footage is out there, it's just a matter of finding it. I have been able to get my hands on a few digital copies of fights from way back. My favorite fight that I have is a digital copy of Marciano/Walcott 1.

I got it from someone overseas...

Moz.....There are fight film collectors who claim to have fight films that no one else has.....Some of these claims are dubious at best. When I research other sites there is always someone making outlandish claims that he has a legendary fight in his collection and is waiting on the proper amount of compensation to release said fight.

The Zale-Graziano fights I and II were said not to exist on film.....Some footage of the 2nd fight has surfaced in recent years, and I saw where a collector claimed to have footage from the 1st fight at Yankee Stadium. Few people believe him.....Another poster/collector claims to have several of the early Robinson-LaMotta fights.....and yes, no one believes him either.

It's funny to read some of the posts on these other websites.....folks calling each other liars and then threatening to post a portion of said fight on YouTube to shut the other persons mouth....but it never happens.

But I think there is a fair amount of stuff out there on Robinson.....Maybe not whole fights (clips and such) but enough to give us an idea of just how good he was in his top form.

How can Johnson vs. Jeffries be filmed along with other old school fights and there not be a lot of Robinson films at Welter. I just never understood that as it must've been filmed by somebody. How could all these other fights be filmed and yet there wasn't a camera around in any of Robinson welter fights... Makes no sense

1. That was a heavyweight championship bout. 2. There was a war going on, son.
