according to my friend, who is manager of Peter Aerts, in NL they sometimes count to ten after a foul and if the fighter cannot continue, the guy who committed the foul is disqualified

but this is not in the Glory rules and nobody in crowd or at home knew this, nor does Ghita. Just another example of Ubeda going in there and refereeing what he thinks kickboxing is, not what the actual rules are.

Makes sense. I was arguing with my dad. I swore he was counting.

^^Would surely explain a lot of poopeda's actions. He used to be a good referee, years and years ago. His diva behavior while he was with It's Showtime, wining but not retiring.

This guy should not be allowed to referee the main event (or any fight) and definately not Ghita's next fight.

It was a recovery count, not a knockdown. Ubeda gave him 10 counts to recover, nothing wrong with that.

I don't know what the rules of Glory say though. Anyways Ubeda should have explained Ghita he had 10 counts to recover. Doc should have been called in if Ghita insisted.

It's true the recovery count is mentioned in the rules:
7.When is a fighter ‘DOWN’

  • He has, according to the referee’s assessment, sustained such a degree of injury that the referee wishes to give him eight counts of rest to recover.

Here are other very relevant parts:
9. Prohibited techniques, moves and conduct

  • All wrestling or judo techniques, strangulation techniques, submissions;

  • All throws, leg sweeps, foot sweeps;

  • All techniques other than those described in the legitimate techniques resulting in the opponent being fallen down;

10. Penalising prohibited techniques, moves or conduct

  • Caution A caution is given in the event of a minor violation.

15. Injuries

  • In the event of injuries during matches, the time is stopped and, following a signal from the referee, the injured person is treated by the ring doctor. The latter decides whether the fight can be resumed. The ring doctor can provide minimal care. If the injury was caused by a prohibited move, then the contestant who caused the injury is disqualified. If the injury was self-inflicted by the injured contestant or was caused as a result of a legitimate technique and the match is suspended, then this is a case of medical intervention.

So, according to the rules, Saki should at least have been given a warning or should have been disqualified right away. In any case, the doctor should have been called in to take a look at Ghita in the first place. As stated, it's up to the doctor to decide whether the fight should continue or not.

Did he warn saki for the illegal technique?
did he check if ghita was ok after the apparant 'injury count'?
Did he simply mess up?

Let's see:

1- Ubeda believes Ghita has sustained such a degree of injury that justifies a recover count. Anyone could see the pain in Ghita's face.

2- Ubeda doesn't call the doctor to check the severity of such injury. That was either incompetence or something else.

3- Doesn't even give a warning to Saki and decides by himself Ghita is able to continue.

You know the rest...

As much as I like Saki (he's one of my favorite fighters), I have to question the credibility of the result and the competence of this referee. I also have to question Glory's ability to implement competent referring in their events.

He did not warn Saki.
He did not check, he couldn't give a fuck about Ghita. After the 8 count, he touched Ghita's gloves and he shown terrible pain on his face. What does Ubeda decide? The fight should continue, it's clear Ghita is 100% fit! The pain expressed on his face is from the joy of continuing the fight of course.

Did he simply mess up? Well, this is the golden question ;)
