Examples of Extremely Bad Fight IQ

Herp Derp.....I'll try to shoot in and takedown the person who's been tossing me all over mat for multiple fights.

Third round both looked tired and yeah Chris started landing body kicks but he also kept getting popped in the face. As tired as Rockhold looked right when it hit the mat Chris was the one with nothing left. He didn't try to pop out or explode once. He kind of turtled when it got into mount and it could have been stopped. Then Rockhold took it to him in the 4th where Weidman laid there and got beat on. Kinda seems more like Weidman was gassing harder.
You need to rewatch that round. Rockhold was gassing hard and Weidman was picking up the pace, landing a bunch of body kicks, then he threw the wheel kick, Rockhold spun him to the ground and Weidman hit his head on the mat and Rockhold unloaded big shots. Weidman was badly rocked not gassed.

This. It's also poetic, in a way. Rockhold was going to fight for the title against Anderson, but Vitor's spinning kick stopped his title shot. Five fights later, Rockhold is the champion because his opponent threw a spinning kick.

MMA is a crazy sport.
there's a pretty decent chance rockhold wins that fight anyway, and he still needed to dominate weidman on the ground after that. it's not like making a mistake and getting caught in a sub or punch.

RDA constantly backing up against multiple opponents but the most notable was him backing up to avoid Colby's lazy teep kicks all the way to the fence a million times

You need to rewatch the whole fight. Hit his head on the mat then Luke landed big? After the takedown Luke had his back and Weidman fought the hands and spun giving him full mount instead of his back. He didn't hit his head and get rocked lmao? Look at the next round too. Chris is completely there in his corner and standing up. He steps to the center first. He isn't rocked in the forth round to start. Rockhold was gassed so hard that he took it to him the whole next round while Chris was getting out-muscled?

he threw a mostly lighter kicks that were mostly blocked and landed with the toes. rockhold still probably landed or partially landed the 2 hardest kicks in the round and was actually landing the better punches.

they were both tired. i don't think anyone can really say weidman was in any control that round.

Watch the round again, Rockhold gets Weidman's back after the wheel kick attempt and spins him to the ground when this happens Weidman hits his head on the mat(not a spike, it was legal but his head hit the mat) then Rockhold unloads big strikes till the round is over. Weidman never recovered and didn't give Rockhold much of anything to defend and couldn't defend himself very well either after that point so it didn't matter that Rockhold was gassing cause he wasn't getting much resistance and I'm sure the adrenaline gave him a second wind since he knew a finish was close.

I don't know how many fights you have seen but guys often look gassed after taking big shots to the head, it happens all the time.

I said Rockhold was gassing(slowing down) not gassed(exhausted), they don't mean the same thing.

Edson taking about 5 seconds before coming to the conclusion that getting into clinching range was the best way to capitalize on the chicken dancer.

He spins him down and chris loses his back. Rockhold is going for the choke but Chris fights the hands before any shots are thrown. You are saying that he hit his head on the mat and rocked himself causing the illusion of him being tired for the next 4 and a half minutes of fighting even though he survived strikes for the next 4-5 minutes of fighting including the fourth round? So this td stunned him so much he was able to get hit in the head for the rest of this fight but he just looked tired. That is more believable than he was gassing? Dude look at the start of the next round and you know you are full of it. He taps gloves, throws a body kick, throws a stiff punch. He is there.

Idk how many fights you've seen but acting like everyone else is a casual doesn't make your delusions true

askren looking for a double leg with a man sprinting at him still takes the cake for me. people call it a fluke but Masvidal wouldn't have done it had he expected Askren to literally do anything different.

On the takedown Weidman hits his head, Rockhold is the one who did the takedown so I don't know what you are talking about when you say Weidman hurt himself you clearly haven't watched the fight recently if you think Weidman took Rockhold down after the wheel kick.

If you want another example of someone that isn't gassing then getting rocked and all of a sudden looking gassed Hendo vs Shogun 1 is a great example only Shogun has a better chin and recovery than Weidman so he eventually recovered and Weidman didn't. Jones vs Shogun is another example of how someone who is rocked can look gassed, Jones started the fight with a flying knee and Shogun looked gassed he obviously wasn't as that happened in less than a minute. Another example is Lombard vs Magny after round 2 where Lombard took a similar beating and got finished in the next round cause he never recovered.

No one is going to look fresh in the 4th round after taking the amount of big shots Weidman took after the wheel kick in the 3rd round. Besides that isn't even what I said, I said that Rockhold was gassing in round 3 before the wheel kick and Weidman was picking up the pace which he was, everything changed after the wheel kick.

Here is a gif of the takedown where Weidman spins one way then Rockhold spins him the other way and he lands on his face.

Sonnen's backfist against Silva in the rematch. He won the first round by a good margin and he was hanging in there alright in the second round until he threw the dumbest most choreographed hail Mary strike and ended up getting finished because of it.

Cody Garbrandt getting hit by the same right cross three times in a row from Dillashaw at UFC 227.
The third shot dropped him.

- Teh Chris channeling his inner Edson Barboza and going for a spinning wheel kick against Rockhold when it just appeared that Chris was taking control of the fight

The amount of shit that move got has always surprised me a little bit.
Do people generally think Weidman should never ever ever throw a spin kick?

I feel like this is a "hindsight is 20-20 case".
If the spin kick had flown by no one would've batted an eye or mentioned is as particularly bad fight IQ.
But just cause it failed spectacularly it was called out as bad IQ.

Arguably it's more bad execution than IQ.

This reminds me of Werdum VS Stipe. People pretended like Werdum "rushing in head first" was some uniquely insane move that was guaranteed to get you KO'd.
But Werdum had done the same shit in 2-3 fights prior (even earlier in the Stipe fight) and no one complained about it until the move failed.

I'm not saying Weidman should do spin kicks - but arguably you'd think he'd have enough wrestling skills to not have to be super cautious about the TD risk. And sometimes fighters just throw stuff they aren't known for to keep the opponent guessing.

Marc Stevens vs Cody McKenzie followed up by Marc Stevens vs Aaron Wilkinson.....Shoots in for a double leg against McKenzie whos only thing is the guillotine choke and gets immediately caught....then using all the knowledge he had gained previously, does the exact same thing against Wilkinson and it was TUF so these fights were literally like a week apart lol

That was absolutely hilarious.

Well, there is no reason to plan if you cant fight at all. She did like four mistakes in seven seconds. Her competition is sad af
