When I was in Catholic HS, if you did sports, you had to do an academic extracurriular too. I was always good at running my mouth, so I did Speech team. As a state placer in both extemporaneous and improptu speech sophomore year, I can guarantee improptu would be a better term for an "improvisational" fighting technique/gameplan.
