This is Nagashima getting destroyed last night in the MAX finals. Study this to identify if you happen to have bad habbits like his and know why they will cost you! His first and subsequent knockdowns are an excellent case study for why you need to bring your hands back after you punch

First knockdown - throws a jab-cross-uppercut without bringing the right hand back. Counter left hook floor him.

Getting subsequently pwned - he starts winging everything without bringing his hands back. Chinese guy just sits back and clocks him in the head.

That was as one sided a fight as I've ever seen. Nagashima looked awful.

Man, after all that training with Masato, he couldnt learn basic defense

in a "what not to do" thread how is dressing like a school girl overlooked?

Whenever hitting the bags, mitts, sparing etc i always get into my mind for every offensive move there is an equal defensive move. Getting into this state of mind i have found keeps my hands up, enhances my peripheral vision to be ready for the counters and speeds up my punches and combo's because the faster i send the punch out the faster i bring it back to guard.

It's become second nature now after every combo i'm defending or rolling under the counter.

easier said than done
it's not just bringing his hands back after he punches
the main reason he got blasted was lack of timing and quickness

nagashima, as masato also pointed out
doesn't have the speed as most top welterweights
not to mention, not enough power

the chinese fighter looks like he has power both sides punching
hard stiff punches
like to see more of this guy vs better competition

How is a guy like that fighting in K-1 Max.
Tremendous striking for MMA btw, He would own but in K-1 Max not snapping your hands back to your chin?? Thats like 3months training and you do it naturally!

That's what you get for wearing a schoolgirl outfit to a K-1 fight?

;)

Let's not forget that he's won fights after dressing much worse.

I've always liked Nagashima, mostly because he's a character and he fights with reckless abandon. Obviously that's not the smartest strategy, especially when you lack serious speed and power (as already mentioned in this thread), but it's definitely entertaining to watch.

Mainly timing, though. He doesn't seem to have the power either - if you're going to blast a 3 punch combo against a guy with his guard up, you'd better have either exceptional speed OR power to discourage a counter. But man....
