Every other major sport has figured out a way to punish athletes without hurting it's own profits. The UFC has figured out a way to punish the athlete, the fans, and itself all at the same time. Why not just give Conor a hefty fine and move this thing along. Everyone saves face, Dana White gets to keep pretending he's all about fairness, and Conor can keep training.

Yeah fairness is the Zuffa word of the day.

Unless we're talking about rematches or title shots.

every other sport dont consider the athletes as "independent contractors"

In major stick and ball sports leagues, the ability to fine players is something that is collectively bargained for by the owners and appropriate players association. For fines to work in the UFC, they would have to be standard in all fighter contracts.

Pulling Conor is a smart business move for the long term
Conor was clearly getting a bigger and bigger ego and was always making more demands before every fight so they put him on restriction for a little while to humble him a little bit and show him that he isnt the boss he thinks he is
Plus it shows everyone else that if the golden child can catch a whoopin for acting out then they better not even think of trying to step outta line

Zuffa was getting the clear message that the fight had no heat, a lot of people didn't care to see it, especially as the UFC 200 headliner. But the fight was signed and it was too late... and then Conor gave them a way out and they took it.

Conjob McDucker screwing us over and somehow we are blaming the UFC for this.

Just make another version of the Reebok dress code fine. Done.

What happens in boxing if a fight breaks lose at a press conference or even a weigh in?
Would they be blackballed from their promoter and the fight called off?
Or do they get fined? Or does nothing happen?
Google... now!

^^this
It's a smart move on their part
Also, pretty much every true mma fan thought Nate vs Conor II was retarded anyway
Now hopefully we get Jones Cormier II for main event or a superfight for Nate that actually makes sense

The UFC isn't a sports league

Those leagues also have guaranteed contracts, unions, revenue sharing, individual endorsement deals, clear rankings, etc.

Well...I think ZUFFA thought about the long term...it saves its face by acting fair...and also it gives a warning to other fighters that if it can take action against Conor....it can do whatever to any fighters should they try to act silly...
