Ever since covid most title fight are just about protecting the champ or gifting TS to stars

With Kalil vs Alex being anounced its cleared that the ufc are protecting him from wrestlers no way in hell Kalil deserved the TS, but he is not the only one in recent year we have had:


HW: Jones being protected from aspinal
LHW: Pereira being protected from Ankalaev
MW: Sean being gifted a TS when dricus deserved it and Adesannya getting multiple rematch with the latest being completely undeserved
WW: colby getting a TS against leon and Masvidal getting a rematch against Usman without any new win when he got dominated in their first fight
LW: Dustin getting a TS against islam with a 1 figtht win streak when Geathje had to fight max
FW: Korean zombie being gifted a TS on a 1 fight win streak when real contender had to fight max and lost their opportunity like arnold allen
BW: Chito being gifted a TS and protecting O'malley from merab (at least the fight is happening now)
FLW: realy the only division that is safe from gifted title shot

Thats only in the past 3 years.
maybe my memory is bad but TS were much more based on merits before covid

Alex hasn’t had an easy road at all. He’s fought an absolute murderers row and been very active. If anything this is a well deserved “easier” fight even though Khalil is super dangerous. No one cared when Fedor took all those tune up fights.

LHW is a mess right now, if you rule out Ankalaev for not being able to fight. Pereira seems to enjoy staying active. Champs used to fight worse scrubs in the UFC if they were really active. Colby getting a shot was horrible. But they aren't exactly milking Rountree for his name, he's one of the few guys on a 5 fight win streak at LHW. Most of everyone else is coming off a loss.

Lol what? He absolutely had an easy road. And I'm saying this as a fan of his. The UFC fed him two low tier fighters, the second one controlled him on the ground so they gave him the only top 5 guy who was a pure striker. Compare that to what fighters like Belal have had to do to earn a title shot. Who else gets a title shot after 3 fights?
