Sci-fi space horror starring Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neil. Interesting plot but the production and editing was rushed leaving more to be desired.

Basic plot:
  • Starship the Event Horizon travels through a black hole warp and disappears around Neptune.
  • It reappears 7 years later sending a distress signal.
  • Cpt Miller and his crew along with Dr Wier, who designed the Event Horizon, go to investigate.
  • The ship brought something back with it. From another dimension...

Flopped in the box office but has gained a small cult following.

Imagery is creepy and and characters are likeable for the most part.

Seen it a million times.

Love it.

Perfect blend of sci-fi and horror.

It's Paul W.S. Anderson's best directing work he's done on a movie, and he's done nothing but shit after this.

This movie had alot going for it. Great cast, great acting (for the genre), awesome set design, a great premise.

What it didn't have going for it, is the overall plot. It all falls apart in the finale and ending. It seemed like it was borrowing too much from the films it was trying to honor, and its own identity falls apart at the end... oh, and about that ending, was it supposed to be sequel baiting?

Overall, its a decent flick, one of the few Space/SciFi/Horror flicks out there, but it wasted much of its potential.

It's pretty much the only film that ever legit scared the fuck outta me. I was only like 13/14 and 5'6 at the time though tbf. It'd probably be badly dated nowadays, but there were some great pieces of design in it.

Yeah a lot happens in the last 30 minutes and it just hits you with a lot to process. Original movie was supposed be longer but it was cut. That would have helped the pacing.

Ending was ominous but maybe just a fade to black sequence? The script doesn’t really allude to anything.

I think maybe the entity that pocessed the Event Horizon followed Lt. Starck and Cooper.

Ship drew inspiration from the Notre Dame cathedral. That’s why it looked so eerie. And the blood orgy/massacre scene was mind boggling. Apparently a lot of gore scenes were taken out though.

Lol watching that at 13/14 must have been intense.

I first saw it around 12 or 13. I remember the night after watching it having a nightmare exactly the same as the woman’s nightmare at the end of the movie (where it was me being woken up from cryo sleep by demon Sam Neil) and waking up around 3 or 4am and not being able to get back to sleep after it.

Legit the most scared I’ve ever been from a movie. The scene when they’re watching the recording of the old crew left me fucking shook for days.

Apparently the making of event horizon was an acrimonious experience for everyone and many details were rushed or done haphazardly. I thought it was excellent.

Yeah the death orgy was pretty much the moment that did it. I think I saw a DVD extra where they mentioned filming a ton more footage of the orgy and hell but they had to chop it the fuck out. What footage was left in the film is still seared into my brain forever. Wouldn't surprise me if they had DDL playing Satan. They probably cut all his scenes so they wouldn't have to pay him.

Loved this movie.

Went with some buddies to the theater to see it and there might have been no more than 8 people watching. Most eerie walk out of the theater after the credits rolled.

Saddest thing about this movie is that it coulda been a lot scarier. It had a bunch of extra stuff (20-30 mins worth) than was removed. The directors cut woulda had at least 10 mins of back story and gory scenes. Anderson even hired porno actors for the room rape and sex scenes that were removed. Too bad all that extra vids is lost...

Not a fan. I would give it a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. Religion and Science Fiction never made a good combination. One or the other. Something like "The Exorcist" or "Alien".

I watched it back when i was like 13/14 aswell, high af and shook for days afterwards. Gonne rewatch it right now ...

That movie scared the fook out of me when I was younger

Sam Neil was great but the rest of the cast was amateurish and really hurt the overall movie.

I watch it probably once a year and always enjoy it
