It's a rough listen between Joe being Joe and Evander sounding rough, but it's an hr. long, and Joe doesn't interrupt too much which seemed to allow Evander to articulate his points at length.

Him quoting his mom's advice and how much it has stuck with him is quite moving.

Joe's boxing knowledge really is name dropping fighters for the most part. And yeah I like how often he brings up his mother's advice.

Somewhere in there he complains about the count in Fury/Wilder and seems to have 0 understanding of how the count works.

Can’t help but wonder about that 1984 Olympic Team. That is undoubtedly an INCREDIBLE class of fighters. Would they have gotten as many Medals if Cuba and Russia participated though? We’ll never know How different the outcome would’ve been but it’s fun to wonder lol

    Joe isn’t a moron.

He actually reminds me a lot of my brother. Pretty smart about a few things, but feels that makes him an expert in most things and makes him feel the need to BS when discussing something he knows very little about.

It’s a bad habit. But neither Joe nor my brother are outright stupid.

Do you know me IRL? Or my brothers? What difference does a off the cuff, anonymous anecdote make to your life?

It was merely an illustration of how I see Joe. People characterise him as an idiot but it’s inaccurate.

To be fair that means that neither does wilder nor Tyson for that matter since he says the same thing about his buster Douglas fight

I agree with this and the post that mentioned him name dropping certain fighters.

I find it actually slightly amusing to listen to.

It’s not like not being knowledgeable about boxing is a crime but then I’d guess he’s a bit insecure in his role as colour commentator and feels he should know more than he does.

He opened up with "Good to have you here, man, I've seen every one of your fights" which seems odd to say, there are very few fighters that I've seen every single fight they've had...
But Joe has gushed on his fights with Qawi before too.

So I guess it's no biggie all in all

Teofilo Stevenson would've added another gold to his count at super heavyweight, so that's at least one less

Wasnt as rough as I thought it would be, Holyfield was surprisingly lucid which made it a good episode.

That actually is a good way to put it.

During play by play, he does a great job explaining the grappling/bjj exchanges....granted I've done very limited bjj and could easily be steered wrong but I'd like to think my knowledge is enough to at least follow what experts are saying most of the time even if i can't literally do it yet

What I was talking about is how he doesn't know that the ref picks up the count from the timekeeper at ringside, who is using an actual clock to keep time.

You are kidding right? Joe is wrong near every time he thinks a sub attempt is dangerous or a lock. Its comical how little situational knowledge and expertise he really has. He knows the names but not much more.

Watch Nog vs Couture or many other fights. If Joe says its a deep locked in sub you can bet the opponent will just stand up seconds later. That also shows that his bjj game is basic.

You gotta understand...I've done like 15-20 bjj classes...I'm green as fuck, white as fuck in bjj belt sense

So like i said, maybe it's just me not having the experience to know

But Joe is a black beltch...he must know some stuff

I feel like he's gotten a lot worse though. Kinda mailing it in sometimes
