I've developed a newfound interest in weightlifting. If only there was a club within 500km of me!

Sorry for my noobness but how do they score weightlifting?
Is it two sperate events? They they use your best lift or the total of all 3 attemps?
Or is it one event where they take the total between the two?

In the Olympics only the total counts. That is, your highest snatch and highest clean & jerk are added together. In a tie between to athletes, the lighter athlete wins. In other international competitions, there are usually medals for the snatch, clean & jerk and the total. That is, the athlete with the highest snatch gets a medal, the athlete with the highest clean & jerk gets a medal and there is a winner of the total. World records can be set for the snatch, clean & jerk and total.

As an example, Steiner (the German guy) won the gold in the snatch (highest snatch), bronze in the clean & jerk (third highest clean & jerk) and the silver in the total (second highest total) in the European Championships.

Creatine? Damn, I knew that stuff was bad for me.

I meant specifics. What banned substance was found in his system? Out of curiosity.

Now I'm confused, because I had read he was suspended for 2 years, he didn't compete from 2005-2007, and yet he isn't on IWF's suspended lifter list.....

That makes more sense. As I couldn't find anything about a suspension on google.

Chigishev competed in 2005 and 2007 Worlds and Euros. He wasn't at the Worlds and Euros in 2006, no idea why actually.
