Media Eugene Bareman: Volk & Izzy "weren't skilled enough" to offset size advantage to become double champ

How could both fighters have a size advantage?

He made a great point. He basically said if another fighter has a size advantage the only way to offset it is with skill. If all things are equal and one fighter is bigger he has the advantage. His statement isn’t meant to be a “gotcha” for fanboys. Context is everything, he’s saying if they come up short then simply the skill wasn’t enough to overcome the size advantage.

Bareman ruthlessly trashing and stabbing his fighters in the back, reminiscent of Phil Nurse's sick demented enjoyment is GSP tapping to strikes.

Champ champ is something to be covetted. Unless you're beating up the "women's featherweight division"

Wait, but morons on Sherdog keep stating there was no size "advantage" because they weighed in at the same weight as their opponents?

What size factor changed it for Poatan? The power?

In the interview they were talking about Izzy vs Jan and Volk vs Islam (moving up and being smaller needing skill to overcome being smaller fighting a guy above you). I think interviewer mentions Alex being massive after that.

i don't think it was the size the relevant factor in Makhachev win over Volkanvski , i could see it for Adesanya .

There were clear components of size Volk was struggling with, you think if Volks reach was longer and his height taller he'd have felt the need to leap and blitz himself into range so that he could reach his punches vs a counter striker? I mean Volk is known for working off the jab and the jab was always out of range for Volk so he had to forego it altogether, similarly his low kicks put him in the punching distance of Islam due to the size disparity so another fundemantal strike he couldn't work. I'd reckon being 10lbs smaller on fight night lead to a power disadvantage too and if we're talking lean mass it might be more than a 10lb disparity?

Even Islam himself said when asked how his striking was so effective that "Volk struggled with my length advantage since he's a smaller guy" in a post fight interview. Before anyone says "buh buh buh Volk has a longer reach" clearly, fucking clearly, the UFC doesn't know how to measure reach because they've had Volk at 4 or 5 different measurements in that regard across his career and I've seen Volk listed anywhere from 64in all the way to 71.5in and many inbetween that. Also punching up isn't advantageous and reach measurements are flawed because they include shoulder width and finger length which can be inaccurate. Also if Volk was say, the size of Fiziev? I bet he'd have hit a lot harder and have been a lot harder to muscle down against the cage with the back body lock and the mat returns.

Size was a huge factor....A HUGE factor. Lower center of gravity is fine, it definitely helps in wrestling but so does size and physical fucking strength along with other things and all but there's a clear reason why Volk has fought his career in the UFC at 145lbs and not 155lbs, its a lot of size to give up. Look at how much Topuria struggled vs that british guy for fuck sake at 155lbs. Volk is someone, look at the weigh in photos, he was visibly smaller than Hirota and Aldo. Even guys like Beneil and Thompson, many fiighters acknowledge Islam is absolutely huge for 155lbs and kills himself to make weight meanwhile nobody has ever said Volk is big even for 145lbs because he's not...But hey, "not a relevant factor".

Why are you mentioning Pereira? Bareman is referring to Adesanya's failed attempt to become LHW champ vs Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259.
I see.
I couldn't play the audio so I assumed it was ref his title defence.
