i was at the mma club at my college this past weekend and one of the member knows this guys who travels up and down the east coast playing music. hes a really good wrestler so he stops by whenever he can. he is 300lbs and has 32 years of wrestling experience. when i talked to him and rolled with him he showed me a lot of stuff he said was to make your opponent do what you want. stuff like when your in side mount instead of going chest to chest put your chest on their floating rips so they have trouble breathing. stuff like sticking your knuckle into their rib, sticking a finger into that spot behind the ear, or pulling sideways on their nose to get them to turn their head.
i was wondering if all this kind of stuff was considered rude when rolling. also, what is the take on this kind of stuff when in an actual competition?

In competition, go nuts. In training, do not do it. It's one of those things one's gotta know if for no reason than to recognise when someone else is doing it to you.

Week before tournaments, I always like a refresher on how to fight "dirty" with my instructor.

i like 2 win clean... goku style, if you need 2 do that stuff 2 win- your the 1 that has 2 live with it. im not condemning it or saying it isnt effective, but personally it aint my cup of tea... if your good enough you dont need 2 do that shit

Some good etiquette would be to CUT YOUR FREAKING NAILS!!!
I just came back from Gracie Barra Countryside and my arms are all covered in dry blood. I was drilling with this extremely short guy who kept pinching and scratching me every time it was his turn to drop me. I'm scared to take a bath now...

Also, if you're going to be a bit dirty in rolling, don't do anything that could hurt the person. I don't think there is a problem in applying chest pressure, knuckle to the rib, tight crossfaces, and so on, but as soon as you're doing things that could hurt someone's mouth, eye, teeth and stuff like that, it's just wrong. Save that for tournaments. Same with the thumb choke hidden by the lapels.

OK. Kinda waested but do have a question. Is rnc against front mouth ok? In old school judo we bit the arm. Now in typial noncomp grappling, you going to choke my face? And allowed to just get away?I\, m old and my teeth arent what hey used to be. Is biting arm allowd?

I know you are joking, but if someone did that to me I think I would just crush their face.

To the TS, it is okay to make the guy uncomfortable in training, but if you start stickin your finger places be ready to get that crap back twice as bad. At some point you will find someone that will do do it back like that or will just smash you instead of rolling nice. If you are 300lbs you can probably get away with it a lot longer.

Justdangerous, you owe the English language an apology.

i try to use common courtesy when allowed. I mean everyone has had knee on belly but then there's like "knee on belly" passing when someone literally puts everything into that and it's not even about passing but more to get you to be uncomfortable. same thing goes with how far I'm willing to go when framing. i'm competition I will frame you to death and do everything until warned otherwise, but in training, i'm really conscious of how hard i'm doing it.

even for submissions. like it just kind of goes without saying that if i'm training and i have someone triangled and i'm trying to make it a choke but i know, at present i have their chin tucked into my leg and if i squeeze hard enough i can get them to tap but really only because its a crank and not a choke....then of course i'll let it go before it gets there. but in a competition, i'll get a win via anything.

you want your jiujitsu to be clean not dirty, I try to stray
away from dirty tactics like that in training, but in competition
all that flies out the window

I put as much weight as possible on my training partner. Unless they're quite a lot smaller than me and not as skilled. Angry cross-faces I don't do in training though.

It's OK to use your hands and forearms to pressure people. Crossfacing is fine. But it is NOT OK to use your knuckles in pressure points, in the spine, under the ear, between the ribs, etc. You might be able to get away with that shit in a competition, but if you do it in training against a guy who is more highly skilled than you, god help you.

the only mildly "dirty" things i do in no gi are:
drive my chin into peoples sternums when they are douches in guard (just try to hold you there for hours, not sweep or submit)
and when im in half guard of better, ill cover peoples mouths with my hand so they with try to wrench it off and open themselves up to kimuras/arm triangles

as long as it cant hurt someone i dont think its that drty

hand over the mouth is so dick

Cheap imo...

Learn technique and dont do that crap to your training partners.

That's retarded. If tried that to me i would sweep you :icon_twis

Bingo! No base lack of control on their head or the underhook. Dirtiest thing I do is dig my forearms on your neck or use my head to "crossface" you in mount.

if youre a white belt i doubt it, im not great but one of my strong points is my base
if you put your hand over their mouth and push into their nose while your doing it, its hard for them to lift their head up and sweep you
most of you arent wrestlers though, so you probably dont have the same type of top control
