Ever since Silva bowed in front of the Dong, people have been bashing him quite badly, saying he was all hype and pretty looks. I can

Erick worries too much trying to be a showman instead winning, securing his job and confirming the hype in the process.

Erick Silva is pretty awesome and I look forward to seeing him again. It's always weird to see skilled, exciting fighters build a following of haters.

He showed good TDD and landed several good shots. he didn't respect Kim's striking and got caught. It happens, Kim was just the smarter fighter that night.

MMA is a sport where your only as good as your last fight. you lose one fight and people claim you suck and were never good. its rough but thats the way this sport is.

It's more than just securing his job, it's about making the right fighting decisions. He's not thinking clearly when in the octagon, he's too brash.

I think the hype is totally justified. We all see what he could do to the WW division. He needs to stay focused on what his coaches tell him to do and stick to the gameplan.

No, he should be concentrating on fighting and fighting only. He should always seek to make the best fighting move next, not the most flashy or the most entertaining.

This is a fight for christsake!

Isn't that the nature of sports? You think everyone likes the San Francisco 49'ers? That is what makes sports worthwhile, the part of the fan base that loves one athlete or team and the other part of the crowd that wants to see them destroyed. As a matter of fact, I would go so far as to say that without the haters, there is no reason to even watch sports. The frenzy of a football stadium or a UFC event is because of the two sides.

agreed he shouldn't have lost to Dong, but the Fitch fight not so much. Fitch was a bad matchup for him, and still a high ranked opponent. fitch was in a title eliminator two fights between he met Silva.

And you've talked to him to discuss this and know the reason he fights this way?

Unless the answer is yes then it's all speculation. He was doing great not getting into the fray with DHKs wild throwing of spinning stuff and getting trapped against the cage. He kept ducking, getting away, and resetting. Yes he tried to connect with uppercuts when DHK was wildly coming in and at the time I thought he would connect and it would be effective.

The guy got caught, stop with all the wining and hand wringing people. This is the type of fighter that we all want to see in the UFC. Hopefully he will learn something and come back as a better fighter.

he fighting style is dynamic, just like shogun in his early career, a joy to watch.

Don't be such an arse. Even tho, Fitch shut him down impressively.
You got what I meant. He doesn't need to fight like he did, dropping the guard all the time, bumping in the fences like a pinball.
After all he is 3-3 in UFC and his biggest win was against... Jason High.
If he loses more two in a row I'm not so sure if his hype will save his job.

Well said, for any fighter to develop a following of haters he has to at least become relevant in the first place. A fighter having a noble following of fans and haters alike is just a sign that they've arrived.

Erick is awesome and exciting as hell. But, his striking defense is embarrassingly bad and that was what DHK exploited.

Silva is awesome and with some more useful training for his camp , he will manage to be focus for the whole fight .
He looked better than the Dong and look fresher (DHK look like he was about to die from exhaustion in the middle of the cage) .

The real question is, how will E. Silva bounce back mentally after his first knockout loss?

I think that will be his true test on how it will shape him into the fighter he was so hyped about.
