All right heres the story Me and about 7 other people wanna start training mma I have experience in jujitsu and wrestling and we have 3 Wrestlers/Bjj dudes 3 Boxer/Browler guys and 1 TKD that wants to train with us. We are converting my about 50-50 basement into a training place and train with each other. I was wondering what would be a list of stuff to get? We have a gym down the road from us in the next town. So weights and treadmills we don't need. But what stuff do we need for sparring at home? Heres a list of what I can think of.
Heavy bag
Speed Bag
Double end
Wrestling mat
Focus mitts
Kicking sheild
Shin guard
Sets of handwraps
Boxing gloves
MMA grappling/training

If anyone can help it would be appreciated!

how big is your mat?

from my experience 10'x10' is just too small :(

Heavy bag
Head guards
First aid kit(seriously!)
Bag bracket of some form
Bag gloves
MMA gloves
Dummy for ground and pound(use search function for how 2 make your own,or google it.)
Possibly crash mat for throws(or maybe thats a wrestling mat...not hip to all the Americanisms....)
Some form of floor covering, mats etc(again its that 'wrestling mat' that confuses me!)

Some form of first aid training would be useful too.

Also have a structure to your lessons, arrange for one guy to teach a few sessions and drill what he teaches you over and over. You need repetition to ingrain stuff into your memory.Don't go er.....whos gonna teach what today and each show one technique that no one ever gets the hang of.Work stuff over and over...BASICS!You guys need to come up with structured lesson plans and work things up gradually to sparring.Don t let it become a free for all.Good luck.

Bao Thai Long Mitts
Jump Rope
Banana Bag (I would go with a banana over reg. heavy - more versatile)
Shooto-style gloves (for sparring - the SSF shooto is highly recommended and inexpensive)
Head guards
Stability ball (Sounds stupid, but has soooo many uses)

I would get some high quality mats if you want to look forward to training and are doing any serious throwing. This is the biggest expense. I would go with some 2" folding mats(that's what I use) because you could always add on another mat if you need more space and they're just great overall.

Why is it more versatile than a heavy bag? I was thinking about buying a banana bag but got a heavy instead(cheaper). SSF's shooto gloves are the best I've used perfect for grapplng/boxing.

Do you know where someone could find some of those?
I got a lot of questions and I'm not even the thread started, guess this thread can help more than one of us.

i have...10x10 dollamur mat(too small for all out rolling...) Speed Bag, Maize Ball, Double End, Heavy, (3) 16oz gloves...Shin Pads...(2) MMA Gloves...handwraps...bag gloves...and 2 training partners

lose the speed bag, and BUILD a grappling dummy and buy a kickshild ment for leg kicks instead of push kicks.

Check out the online classifieds, www.craigslist.org. I bought two swain folding mats(6x12 each) for 250$ canadian total. He was selling them for 250 each but I guess he wanted to sell em right away, but some other dude didnt keep in contact with him so he sold em to me. Also, a couple of months ago there were 5 tatami mats for sale for 75$ total but I was too late. I also bought an olympic bench + some weights for 100$ on there.
