There is a tournament (bjj gi and no gi) and imd ebating wheather or not to enter. im 15,5'3 and 132 lbs. My problem is that i have only been training 3 hours a week for 3 weeks. My instructor said i could up my training to 5 hours a week. I think i am pretty good but i wanna know if i should enter this early.

Go ahead. I entered my first tournament with three weeks of training, and beat my first opponent by guillotine choke.

Enter. You might lose, but you'll learn something. Plus, you'll get the tournament nervousness over with early in your training career.

And if you do lose, don't let that bring you down. There will be guys that's been training for years and you going in after a few weeks isn't that great of a chance. Just go in there and have fun. Who cares if you win or lose. It's all about the experience and train harder next time to win.

Yea just go out and have fun. I think I am goin to do my first BJJ tourny in Oct. 21 at the US open. I don't care if I win or lose cause I will gain something out of the experience. Also if there is a bunch of you guys competing together it helps build team spirit.

dont worry about your skill level, that only comes with time and practice.
What you want to do is go running everyday from now until about 3 days of so before the comp.

Take it from me, You can forgive someone being better than if you lose, but you cant forgive just running out of gas .

Good luck!

tournaments are fun, lots of hot girls, meet cool people, team grows closer, and you get to showcase your skills at 100%

Im with you with the hot girls bro..I was at the Pan-Ams in April of this year and last year...friggin hot chicks everywhere! Even Kyra Gracie was there walking around..

The cool people as well..everybody there is very nice and easy to talk to

The team will grow closer for sure, even if there is losses amongst the team, they'll still be supporting you through and through

No. Im gonna go Juvenile blue belt 163 lbs instead of Adult Blue 154 lbs. Only cuz one of my teammates is competing at 154 (i've beat him at Gracie Worlds like 3 weeks ago), I dont wanna have to fight him sometime in the bracket...assuming we meet that is. Thats the weight hes fighting at, plus, he's only like 6% body fat at that weight, and I think it would be disrespectful on my part to drop weight again and fight in it.

The reason why I wanted to compete at Adult blue 154lbs was so that I can do the open weight. But I read that Juveniles that compete at 163 lbs Blue Belt Juvenile and up are able to fight in the open as well.

I dont need to cut weight, I'll be under by about 5 lbs. Then compete in the open.

Boy, I hope I didnt bore you with my long ass reply..sorry!

See you there!

Names Manuel BTW, lots of people call me Manny though

Compete it is a fun as hell. I had my first competition a week after I first started to do judo again (I did judo as a child for a couple of years) ended up winning the competition. The club had a sort of club championship so the adults group were basically my training group and I outweighted all of them with atleast 25 kilos. Evne had a tie with a BB (but he was only at 67 kilos and over 55 years old)

That is the best part with Juydo only 5 minutes fights!!!

worst you could lose is your matches, even if this happens you will gain the experience. My first tournament was after 5 sessions all together with a mma club (not even class and not exclusively grappling) and I lost but I gained the experience.

man this thread has fired me up. im competing now, i dont give a fuck!

zagreb here i come!

ah yes, i'm singing up for my first competition too.
i've only been doing bjj since the end of july and i'll be competing in october as well. i just hope i can figure out some offense by then !

just train hard, and don't care about winning or loosing, it will be good experience....

My first competition is tommorrow morning. I am very pumped up. I hope I sleep okay tonight. Anyway, I have been training for about 2 months now and I know win or lose it will be a great experience and will only make me better.

eroc if u know someone with a cam make them tape your matches. you will learn ALOT by reviewing tape!

I just finished my first competition. I took 3rd in NO-GI and 1st in GI in my division. I was incredicble, and I was able to avenge my lose in NO-GI by submitting the guy who beat me in GI. Great time, next competition is in 2 weeks. I will get my buddy to post some of the videos from the tournament if possible.
