Encana is a major Canadian energy company that recently announced it will be relocating its headquarters to Denver Colorado, citing a 'hostile' environment to the energy sector in Canada. This move has bolstered Alberta's movement, dubbed 'Wexit', toward secession from the Canadian state. My response is as follows:

The climate heroes of B.C. have dealt yet another devastating loss to Alberta's planet-destroying contingent whose governing ideology at this point is belligerent petulance.

As a British Columbian, Alberta's exit from Confederation means nothing to me and has absolutely no effect on my life whatsoever. Allow me to explain.

In Canada, we have a system known as equalization payments wherein 'have' provinces (provinces that make enough money to ensure their social programs meet a national standard) have their wealth redistributed by the federal government to 'have not provinces' so that the have not provinces can ensure their social programs meet the national standard.

In simpler terms, the government takes our money and hands it over to a bunch of ungrateful cunts that then get stinky that we won't let them take a giant shit on our doorstep by increasing tanker traffic in our port.

Alberta's desire to increase the pipeline capacity is based on magical thinking. There's no demand for their product and they believe that flooding the market with something there is no demand for will somehow create demand for it. Basically, Albertans got the sads that their economy is at the mercy of OPEC and want to shit on the much better province of BC to make themselves feel better about being in the toilet.

Well, since we are also a have province like Alberta there is literally no incentive for us to assent to their destruction of our coast. Also, we are more populist province. Alberta is pushing Wexit because they are salty about the federal election. Good. Get out. I'll help you pack your bags.

    TLDR version:

This modified quote from the documentary about my disciple Conan the Barbarian sums up my thoughts on the subject:

Khitan General: Conan, what is best in life?
Conan: To crush the oil industry, see it driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their Albertans!

I'd love to hear your explanation on how the natural resource in a country can belong to a different country? Assuming Alberta left, the land and everything in it is no longer Canadian.

do non Albertans realize how much oil is important to the Canadian economy?

on top of that, it's relation to the US and ability to use pipelines to send it to our Gulf refineries?

    i take it, no?

Sounds good to me. As I said, BC is self-sufficient so they can take their garbage oil with them when they leave.

Alberta doesn't currently exist without canada...it is a Canadian province..therefore everything with in..by co-operation is owned by Canada..

Alberta isnt a country...in trying to separate it wants to become a country but currently everything is under Canadian rule..

    Think of it this way

Guy (province alberta) works for fortune 500 company ( Canada)..

Guy decides he wants he leave to start his own business (country of alberta)

Guy cant take the equipment, clients or name from said fortune 500 company ( Canada) and start his own...

Guy has to start from scratch...

Otherwise whats the point of being a fortune 500 company (country) if your employees (provinces) can just leave with all ur shit lmao

We don't receive any monetary benefit from Alberta's oil industry. That was the point of the OP. It literally makes no economic difference to British Columbians whether Alberta stays or goes so your posturing about secession is completely pointless in the British Columbian context.

The simplest explanation is that a country is not a fortune 500 company and a province is not an employee of Canada.

Unless we don't let the oil patch be part of this new nation of Alberta.

One thing the crybabies in Quebec and Alberta have in common is that they think separating means they get to keep everything they currently have.

And to all the Wexit bellyachers, why were you not doing this under Harper and why did you under Harper not 'fix' the Canadian system?

You lose 2 elections after winning several, suddenly you bith and complain like a bunch of French canadians

I don't follow. Are you saying that as an Albertan you want to outlaw the oil patch?
Or saying as a country that Canada would invade new Alberta for their oil?

The simplest explanation is Alberta has no bargaining power over BC and should try to fix their problems instead of relying on magical thinking that sounds good to the ear until you think about it for more than half a second.

As an Ontarian, I'm saying that whether it be Alberta or Quebec, any separation would be a negotiation, and as part of that land rights would be up.

There is no guarantee that Alberta would have the same borders they have now.

It would not be 'invade' or war, it would be negotiated.
