So what is the verdict? Did it happen?
They should have lost their license for a month for that. They could not have complained.
the media didn't really jump on story...though social media did (and got it mostly wrong, completely wrong).
the NYT initial story was, in a part, just a commentary on how quickly this story grew legs on social media, and how absolute the outrage was.
there was no "big bold headline" in the NYT or NPR, and followup reporting on this story was given the same exposure and placement as the initial one was.
i like you, Bald1, and this is in no way a criticism of you - but alot of folks seem to have a preconceived notion as what the media did or didn't do and don't seem to be inclined to let the facts get in the way of their outrage.
(unless by "media" you're referring to Kathy Griffith. if that's the case, then i'd concede all the points you made as being valid).
I'll defer to your knowledge of print media as I'm increasingly more reliant on online sources.
Criticise away bud, it's how I learn and as long as it's constructive I'll never get offended.
i think you're a good guy, so i wanted to make sure i wasn't coming across as a schmuck, my friend.
Thanks for clarifying.
All good IGIT. I like your style and I "get" the way you post so no misunderstanding here. Half the time I think you write while smiling and I get a kick out of you toying with our more belligerent posters.
Besides, being a good human being shouldn't insulate me from getting called out on BS when appropriate.
I have seen mea culpas from many entities/folks who initially criticized the boys. I don't watch TV but did catch a glimpse of CNN feature the main kid on prime time, and it was not an ambush interview or antagonistic; they gave the kid an opportunity to get his story out.
They are not stoking racial strife, unless you think the media should not report on racial issues. They report on issues and incidents as the news develops. Every network wants to be the first to break the news. This isn't new, they did this with the OJ Simpson case, with Anna Nicole Smith, with Jon Benet Ramsey, with that Richard Jewell guy and the Atlanta Olympics. In the case of Richard J. the media made Richard out to be the perp. of the bombing, because that is what the authorities initially led the media to believe.
I disagree with the "none dare" below. If this is a legit investigation, they are actually going to call this a straight hoax, which it obviously was, is and has been. Lock him up!

That's horseshit. WaPo, NYT and anyone with an internet connection had the resources to investigate the Covington faceoff before publishing inaccurate articles with a racial slant.
They chose to jump the gun because they have thrown their standards out the window in the name of clicks and ad revenue.
Yeah, people are so concerned with everything race related that they completely lose their minds.
At the start all they had was the first video, so they ran with it. When the later video emerged, they started to change tack. American mainstream journalism has never really cared about quality like the BBC used to be known for. It's always gravitated towards mass consumerist easily digested news. Advent of social media and the internet with rapid-fire news cycles and viral news has only exaggerated this aspect of American journalism.
“Racism” is a lite version of the Salem witch trials
Perhaps more than that at one point.
There were far worse racist lynchings.
Today that sort racism is extremely rare and can not meet demand.
That selectively edited video of the face-off was not "news". It's a fragment of an event described from a biased perspective. To publish it without finding out more details is reckless and irresponsible. In my estimation, incidents like that one are the major reason why Americans' opinion of the MSM is in the toilet.
The MSM isn't NPR and NYT. You are fake news. You are a liar. You are disingenuous.
You know what narrative was pushed. You know it was a lie.
You know why.
A lot of amateur detectives in here. I don't see enough for me to be sure either way. Hopefully, more facts will come our, but for now I will take him at his word.
It is just a sign of what Trump has allowed people on the right to think is ok these days.
