So get a load of this, I know it happened 2 years ago but it was never posted in here, and I really get a laugh out of this.

For those of you that pay attention to international affairs, you may be familiar with the migrant worker situation in the UAE. 80% of the workforce are migrants from SE Asia and there have been a lot of cries of human rights violations including: stripping of passports so migrant workers cant return home, brutal working conditions, brutal living conditions, etc etc. Many had been comparing these workers to slave laborers.

What you DONT hear about is that in 2016/2017 the UAE's Federal National Council passed a law that provides the following for all of these migrant workers:
-30 days paid vacation per year
-medical insurance
-a contract
-one day off per week

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...tic-workers-rights-organization-idUSKBN18Z2DN

So let me get this straight.....
poor migrant workers from SE Asia are guaranteed healthcare and one month paid vacation, by an Islamic theocracy, but the "most prosperous, best, wealthiest, most free nation ever on earth", can't even get mothers paid maternity leave? Let alone guaranteed 30 days paid vacation per year LET ALONE healthcare for all workers.

Jesus christ guys. This is absolutely pathetic.

Of course TS.

We’d be way better off practically enslaving our workforce but giving them 30 days vacation and extremely basic healthcare services so they can continue to work in practical slavery.

these people make way more money working in the UAE than they did in their home countries where they basically live off the land (subsistence)
this is the same thing thats happening in china - all the desperate poor people from the country move into the city and go to work in the factories to work hard and improve their lives
this is the same thing that America went through during the industrial revolution, the only difference is that during our industrial revolution we had kids in the factories and gave no one healthcare or paid vacation XDDD

they even do capitalism better than us bruh

When it comes to it those immigrant workers will get the square root of fuck all , doesn't invalidate your other point though .

yeah by no means am i saying
"man I wish we Americans could trade places with these migrant workers!"
just pointing out how interesting it is that 3rd worlders are guaranteed vacation and healthcare by an islamic theocracy

also - these workers leave the UAE much better off than when they came, which is why they arrive in droves and continue to arrive in droves. Its back breaking work for about 2-3 years then they dip out and take their money back to their home country and live much better lives.

Some do , some end up being ripped of by the companies that employ them because whatever rights and guarantees they may have they won't mean shit if their boss is a friend of a friend of the Prince .

Let's not give them too much credit yet, passing the law is one thing and implementing it is another. But yeah the state of worker's rights concerning issues like maternity leave in this country is a bit disheartening to say the least.

There's just so little reporting on the issue. I had to really dig just to find this article reporting on the fact that they passed this law.

I think the idea is: if your country's prosperity is so reliant on these migrant workers you should treat them well or they'll stop coming. If millions of these workers go home and tell everyone how horrible it is the labor supply would dry up and the economy would tank. But these workers continue to arrive in droves so obviously theyre getting value out of the exchange.

Murkan workers are basically slaves. They are just brainwashed to think they arent. I think most of them know they are but are too scared of the rich to do anything.

Ive heard there are Murkans who qualify for 1-2 weeks vacation but dont take it because they are afraid when they come back they will be replaced and lose their jerbs. Talk about some slave zhit right thur.

How do you think they got there? They saved up and got a one way to UAE? You cuck, they are slaves, they are brought there, passports taken, and well, now you have no other choice

I wonder if there's an element of competition between these GCC states for these workers, like maybe this law was supposed to show the countries these migrants come from that the UAE is a better destination for work.

Yeesh, this is some troublesome logic. It wouldn’t be entirely different from crediting southern plantation owners for providing free housing.

Except that slaves didn't get paid and these workers do? You're kind of leaving out that big distinction

So, this happened two years ago...but did it ever get royal assent (UAE equivalent)? Article is saying it needed president signature, but that was two years and I can't find anything showing it was officially passed?

Until then it's a meaningless placate

That’s far from universally true but it isn’t really the point either. It’s just hard to give credit for socialistic care-taking of a population whose rights you’ve suppressed.

If they aren't getting paid and millions of workers are there, then they wouldn't be able to return home, or eat. So you're kind of inferring that these people are being killed in mass. These workers go home much wealthier than when they came and that's why they continue to come to the UAE

Yea go to the UAE and see how they are treated what I saw is pretty disgusting
