Elizabeth Warren wants to rob shareholders, reward plebs.

Republicans better kill this shit. Workers represented on the Board? Fuck that. Corporations exist to pay shareholders, not employees.

JIM CRAMER: You've produced a very thoughtful article in the Wall Street Journal about companies shouldn't be accountable only to shareholders. Tell us about it.

ELIZABETH WARREN: All right. So you know how American economy worked for decades, shoot, for centuries. And that was that the biggest companies in this country had multiple responsibilities: a responsibility to their shareholders, to their employees, to their customers, and to the communities that they were involved in. And it worked, right? Everybody got richer--

JIM CRAMER: And we're coming back to it like, a -- Salesforce is saying that. But the vast majority of are not coming back to it.

ELIZABETH WARREN: That's right. Stock market went up. Productivity goes up. And workers do better. We built the great American middle class. And then what happened? You start, basically, in the 1980s. And corporations start shifting over. And they say, "Wait, wait, wait. We have just one, single-minded focus. Shovel as much money as you can into the pockets of the shareholders. And forget about the rest of that stuff." And the consequence has been that the shareholders have done really well. The 10% of Americans that owns more than 80% of all the stocks, shovel money in there. But workers, wages have flattened out. In fact, lately, it looks like hourly wages, adjusted for inflation, have gone down.

old video of Cramer bragging about fucking people over and manipulating the market:

Elizabeth Warren has a big idea that challenges how the Democratic Party thinks about solving the problem of inequality.

Instead of advocating for expensive new social programs like free college or health care, she’s introducing a bill Wednesday, the Accountable Capitalism Act, that would redistribute trillions of dollars from rich executives and shareholders to the middle class — without costing a dime.

Warren’s plan starts from the premise that corporations that claim the legal rights of personhood should be legally required to accept the moral obligations of personhood.

Traditionally, she writes in a companion op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, “corporations sought to succeed in the marketplace, but they also recognized their obligations to employees, customers and the community.” In recent decades they stopped, in favor of a singular devotion to enriching shareholders. And that’s what Warren wants to change.

you really are a special brand of cunt arent you?

Man, this thread sucks. Is there any actual policy discussion to be had?

I am not clear on the details here and can't support or criticize the bill, but I think the goal of combating income inequality without raising taxes a dime is a great fucking thing to pursue.

I suppose the perception of luxury or indulgence will be lax for certain people if they've never actually experienced some taste of it. As a result, they are reduced to equating simple modern conveniences as being luxurious.

Have you ever eaten at a non-fast food, non-diner restaurant before?
<{vega}>

Yeah. I don't eat fast food. What did I say that implied I did?

I can tell you for a fact that having workers with seats on the board would generate profit at my workplace.

I can not explain to you the idiocy I see on a daily basis. Management in corporate America are analytics experts. That has plenty of upside. It also has some incredible blind spots.

Japan values their workers, and listen to them. That does not make them hippy communists.

Germans value their workers, and listen to them. That does not make them national socialists.

Corporate America does not value, or listen to their employees. It is absolutely dominated by analytic experts, aka bean counters.

Your company sucks and you sound poor

Change jobs

I know I know you’re not a bootlicker and not at all like those Israelis and all that shit but if you don’t feel valued change jobs

I got to vote myself a five percent raise in person with the president of my company

I got to vote on the dress code, minor shit but some people cared about it

We got to vote on travel, food etc...

You compared antibiotics to an iPhone. You are a clown.

You have no clue what you are talking about. You think Apple doesnt make better profits than Merck? lol.

I think allot of pharma profits are going to advertising, executive pay, lobbying, and campaign finance.

Do you disagree?

They can't. They are feeble. They need somebody to hold their hand and do it all for them. Self empowerment is bad.

It is such a simple solution too. Invest in stocks. But people can't even do that on on their own. It has to be forcefed.
Jesus, I can't tell if you're trolling. But in case you're not, there are two obvious problems with this. One, picking stocks well requires knowledge. In fact, most "experts" can't even beat index funds and can't even justify their fees. The second, and more important problem, is that people don't have cash to invest. There are so many people that can't make ends meet that they don't have any safety savings for emergencies, couldn't afford a $500 surprise bill, etc. so they sure as hell can't invest.

It's a circular problem. Gains have gone to the richest folks and wages are stagnant which means lots of people who earn from wages aren't able to invest (which is where the gains are to be had).

And your disgust of people who simply work for a living makes me think you're trolling, but if not it's pretty lame.

Yeah, and how is your pension, and health care co-pays going?

If your answer is that they are doing well, you are literally the 1%. If your answer is shit, enjoy taco Tuesday.

{<doc}
Probably the post where you said that you consider getting a burger and fries and large soda in under 3 minutes pretty effing decadent
Because it is decadent? Going to a strip club and guzzling beers with titties mashed in your face is also decadent, but that doesn't mean I hang out in strip clubs.

Do you disagree?

And so do other companies. DO you know how much taxes companies like Apple and Starbucks dodge you moron? The share buy backs. Jesus fuckin Christ. You have no clue what you are talking about. You resort to an ignorant conspiracy theory about pharma. I dont care what the fuck they spend money on, they aren't shit compared to Apple and Google. Understand that.

You have been wrong on every issue in this thread. Americans aren't buying and consuming you said. lol. Ok. Wrong. Then you said iphones and antibiotics were equivalent. Wrong. Then you have a totally false and ignorant view of the business landscape.

Once again the idiotic rubes defend the ownership class, "WILL SOMEBODY PITY THE POOR MILLIONAIRES"!!!

It does have to be forcefed. It is why we have social security, and why pensions were once the norm.

We were once smart enough to know that boot strap picker-upperering doesn't stop you from seeing granny giving handjobs for 12 packs of Ensure.

You are a liar.

Why do you hate success?

If workers have board members in publicly traded companies, all the privately held companies won't work hard, and will go on welfare instead of growing up, and becoming publicly held companies.

The idea of a social contract is not new.

It's what decent government expects.

Governments should rule for the benefit of their people first and looking after companies etc are aa subse of their primary responsibility.

First example to mind employing people but not paying them enough so that the tax payer had to support them. It's fucking ludicrous.

I invest with them if they are good. People buy stocks for a return. Your pedantry is boring and desperate.

I'm not trying to bore you. Rather, I tried to point out that your OP was both misleading and over simplistic.

You should have been more accurate and not stated "pay shareholders".

Likewise you stated that a copr "only exists" for one reason, which is likewise retarded. Modern corps need to balance shareholders' gains, which include dividends, capital gains and so on (see how I did not just state "pay shareholders"?), customers, labour, and so many other factors.

One is needed to live and has saved countless lives. The other is used to play games on and post pictures.

Smart phone makers have higher profit margins than drug companies btw.

Lol what kind of job do you have where a smart phone isn't a necessity?

people in third world countries own fucking smart phones lol.

you can buy an old iphone for $50 and use a prepaid card and use internet at a free WiFi spot.

Some homeless fucking people have smart phones. jfc
