Mark is def. telling the truth.

If I remember correctly, Mark's exact words were "that guy has full retard strength, it's unbelievable how strong he is" over beers.
I was rooting for Urijah that fight before I was a Wineland fan, and all the new breed guys were getting mad everytime I cheered for Faber.

I've never met Wineland, but my brother rolls at new breed( I guess the name is the same but changed bjj affiliates) and I've met Mark and know some of his friends. But yea there aren't any high level guys or big names there, by all accounts he's super loyal and has a great relationship with Mark. Personally, I think he just needs to diversify his striking, use TD's to set up GNP, and improve his defense and he should be in the top 5 again

BJJ affiliate is now Bonsai, but the New Breed name was kept under New Breed Training Center. He is very loyal to Mark and Bob, so I believe he will stay with them... You also have to factor in his full time job as a firefighter in Indiana... Makes it hard to move out East or West to relocate to a new gym. You both are correct in that he typically trains with local MMA Pro's/amatuers that aren't close to his level in terms of MMA experience/skill. I've seen Pro boxers from Chicago come in to spar with Eddie, but that is mainly boxing. His takedown defense is exceptional, and his strength for 135lb(s) is insane..

You don't need to go to some great gym to learn to keep your chin down.

You think they'll bring in bigger names he can train with for his next fight camp? I know it'll cost him more cash to bring in higher level guys, but I think it can only help. IMO he should have never taken the Eduardo fight, he should have fought a guy who is near the same ranking as him or contender status, he had more to lose than to gain by taking that fight.

Watch film and adjust to incoming strikes. His opponent seemed to be timing him the whole fight and then boom. Battle on.

If you read the prior posts you'd know that he's never had to worry about tucking in his chin at the gym he's at now. Eddie could get by with his head movement and footwork with lesser skilled guys, keeping his hands down and his chin up was eventually going to cost him. If he can fine tune his skill set and shore up his striking defense, he'll be top 5 again. Eddie is too good not to get another title shot/

I read all the posts, that doesn't matter. Lots of guys could get away with lots of things in training but they still don't make those mistakes because there's no reason to. Wineland doesn't need to change gyms to learn to keep his chin down, it's that simple. There are guys that come from name gyms who don't get the basics right their entire career just like there are guys who come from hole in the wall gyms and do everything picture perfect.

Do you think he doesn't know that he needs to keep his chin down and he needs Henri Hooft or Duane Ludwig to teach that to him? This is on him. Yes, iron sharpens iron and all that but his training partners/trainers are no excuse for fighting the way he does. If he can't even learn the basics at the gym he's at now then he isn't going to somehow change into a completely different fighter by going somewhere else.

'Bigger names', probably not... Lamas and Curran would be the two biggest names in the area (close to that weight).. Other than that, you would have to travel up north to Duke's gym in Milwaukee.. Again, it comes down to the relationships between each individual coach and their respected gym as to whether or not those fighters will lend a helping hand to a rival... Though the big names might not be available, NB can still add some seasoned veterans on the midwest mma circuit who have been in the game for awhile...Either that or continue to bring in 'specialists' in Boxing, Muay Thai, etc.. .to give Eddie some different looks in the stand up game.. I think a combination of new blood (training partners) and a modified gameplan will work wonders for the future of Eddie's career. I would guess that a more conservative gameplan will be implented for Eddie's next fight, regardless of who the opponent is.

He needs to alter his striking offense, more kicks, improve striking defense (tuck the damn chin at least), has to attempt TD's. He's fallen in love with his boxing, that he won't do anything else.

Offensive boxing at best. He has neglected the defensive aspects of boxing/striking.

keep doing what he is doing. his style is so damn entertaining. he will knock out a lot of guys but also get ko'ed from time to time. he should stick around for several more yrs

Too bad you can't just casually get knocked out like he does and stick around for long.

Yep. I dunno what the other guy was thinking, I doubt Eddie wants to get KO'd repeatedly the next few years.
