...most of the guys that Khabib takes down, they are spending all their energy trying to get back up, and then get taken down, and then drag themselves back up and then get taken down again and back and forth (and that's where they lose the fight, gassing themselves). Tony is not going to do that. He's going to attack from his back. Khabib has never dealt with a guy that's like "okay, we're on the ground, let's do this." It's a different ballgame when Khabib's trying to keep a guy on the ground who's trying to drag himself up vs. a guy that will just square up and is like "ok, let's attack". Tony will get taken down, and there will prob. be some attempts here and there to try to get up but for the most part Tony won't do what every other guy does is freak out and try to expend all this energy trying to get up. He'll embrace the position and attack from his back which Tony is very dangerous from.

I'm paraphrasing, but this Bravo take (from his fight companion/jre) is probably the most logical thing I've heard in discussing why Tony has the best chance of any fighter to beat Khabib.

always thought khabib is open to chokes when going for takedowns. no one is better than that than tony, and off his back. khabib can be whooping tonys ass for 24 mins and i wouldnt be suprised to see tony pull off a sub win

Yes. Everyone on these boards has been saying that as well, all year.

Hope the fight is made, I really want to see it.

Khabib's father gave a very intelligent response to this idea (IMO).

Look into it. You got to look into it.

If you haven't looked into it, you should.

All that means is that Khabib can throw more ground and pound without worrying as much about losing position. There is a reason guys are constantly trying to get back up after Khabib takes them down. Giving Khabib any room to pound on you from top position is just stupid. Maybe Eddie should lay off the dirt weed.

Unfotunately, if tony doesnt try to get back up khabib will gladly stay on top for 25 minutes, and in MMA that scores you a win.

Unless tony can submit him from the bottom, which lets be real, cant be the anyones game plan, he'll lose a decision.

If your hope to win this fight is to do that and thats what you are going to base all your game around, its a hell of a longshot

Tony, you're going to welcome Khabib on top of you? Then how about welcoming some fists raining down on your face? Because that will likely happen. The reasons why others want to get up because they don't want to be punched in the face.

Tony is the type of guy, that is going to lie down on the center of the cage and invite Habib in guard, so that he can beat him where he is best.

That’s valid. Also. Tony is long and reigns down elbows from his back.

He’s also battled tested and has never folded when the going gets tough.
And he’s proven that many occasions.

Tony is the most unique opponent Khabib has ever faced.
Especially as tony has never had his will broke.

Dustin folded worse than Connor. He went for a choke. Was tired gave his back up to get choked out.

There’s many ways to give up in an mma fight. And Dustin showed you a way.

Tony presents a lot of threats that others Khabib fought haven't.

This pic is disingenuous. It’s not a good idea to pretend this pic has meaning on an MMA forum, mate. Not long after that top control, Ferg went on to put a triangle choke on Lee that ended the bout.

People are assuming that Khabib is going to fight Ferguson the same way he fought Dustin. Dumb mistake. Khabib shot for singles against Al and Conor, yet used doubles to literally ram Dustin into the fence and went for trips. Khabib changes his tactics and adjusts his arsenal of TDs based on the opponent. Khabib's father said in an old interview that Khabib is going to employ more upper body takedowns against Ferguson, i.e. employ more of a Greco wrestling style.

TL;DR: Do not underestimate Khabib, he's not dumb and knows about the choke threat and can adapt to different opponents having literally THE widest arsenal of takedowns in the UFC.

Tony has better scrambles, sweeps and guard offence than RDA. He will control the centre of the cage and won’t be taken down anywhere near the fence so there will be room for hipmovement.

If Tony can implement rubber guard it will be even more ideal.

Guys try to get up because of the pressure.
If he want to stay on the ground he will be destroyed. Khabib will not give him space to throw elbows and shit, and will pressure him constantly.
Technically, welcoming Khabib on the ground is the worse gameplan, there is levels to this shit.
