A welterweight bout between Ed Ruth and Andy Murad is the latest addition to this month’s Bellator 201 lineup.

MMAjunkie verified the matchup between Ruth (5-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) and Murad (15-2 MMA, 2-2 BMMA) with a Bellator official.

Bellator 201 takes place June 29 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif. Ruth vs. Murad takes place on the prelims, which stream on the Bellator app prior to the Paramount-televised main card.

Ruth, 27, will make his official welterweight debut at the event. After starting his career at 195 pounds and eventually moving his way down to middleweight, Ruth was supposed to fight at 170 pounds at Bellator 196 in April. His opponent withdrew on short notice, though, and the American wrestling standout ended up beating replacement opponent Ion Pascu in a catchweight affair.

Looking to halt Ruth’s undefeated streak will be an experienced foe in Murad. “The Tooth Fairy” lost back-to-back fights under the Bellator banner in 2014, but has since reeled off nine wins in a row. That includes a pair of victories with Bellator.

With the addition, the latest Bellator 201 lineup now includes:

  • Champ Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Alejandra Lara – for women’s flyweight title
  • Saad Awad vs. Ryan Couture
  • Valerie Letourneau vs. Kristina Williams
  • Jamal Pogues vs. Jordan Young
  • Ricky Furar vs. Lance Lee
  • Joshua Jones vs. Jacob Rosales
  • Juan Archuelta vs. Robbie Peralta
  • Ed Ruth vs. Andy Murad

Think Ruth wins this fight but have no problem with it. Guys on a nice streak, has experience and a good record. Ruth still only has a handful of fights. This is a good next step building him up. Plus its a new div for him.

I do not know much about Murad but looks like a nice step up for Ruth, IMO is a shame that he is moving down 1 weight class but this just means a deeper WW for Bellator.
Jordan Young is also fighting, hopefully both fights are going to find a way to be streamed on TV if there are some quick finishes...

Good fight
Ruth wins

Down to WW for Ruth, not bad..

Murad is a good grappler. Ruth gave Pascu his neck a couple of times and a Murad is the type that can Baby Joe that weakness that raw wrestlers have. That should be the extent of the threat that Murad poses to Ruth though. Good fight for Ruth

Would be good with a 5 fight main card that looks like this. If they can only do 4 ditch the Jordan Young fight I guess.
  • Champ Ilima-Lei Macfarlane vs. Alejandra Lara – for women’s flyweight title
  • Saad Awad vs. Ryan Couture
  • Valerie Letourneau vs. Kristina Williams
  • Jamal Pogues vs. Jordan Young
  • Ed Ruth vs. Andy Murad

Here @Danespina , another one that is not built up.
This one has a nice trajectory, me like.

Is anyone moaning about Ruth fighting nobodies? I mean, this guy is equally highly touted as MVP (who I can't stand by the way), and is just fighting mid/low tier nobodies fight after fight. Surely by now he should be fighting someone around the elvel of a Rickels or Gonzalez?

Dude he’s had 5 fights. I expect him to go the DC route and start really catching bodies around his 8th or 9th fight. Still, this is a good fight and test for his 6th fight.

No, he's fighting decent fighters of his level.
No-names, yes. But not nobodies.

the archuleta/peralta might be another fight they might think about airing on the main. that fight might be exciting since peralta is a brawler. this card has no real one fight that im interested in seeing but a bunch that are semi-interesting, would be one hell of a undercard for like a tentpole

Is this sarcasm?

MVP is 31 years old and had his first fight over 6 years ago.
Ed Ruth is 27 years old and his first fight hasn't even been two years ago yet.

Not yet imo. He's got a few more fights building up before fighting the mid level guys of the div. I'd say another year's worth. If he's 10-0 and still fighting bottom level guys then its time to complain but next few fights slowing moving up the ranks is fine.

Wow- Andy getting all those back surgeries and other injuries have put his tennis career to a halt- now he s freekn fighting Ed Ruth in a cage.
Holy F^$k !

I'm pissed to see Ruth (and to a lesser extent Joey Davis) will be on the prelims.

What a crock of shit if Ruth remains on the undercard.

In all honesty, I'd rather watch Ruth fight than any of the other match ups.
