Economy Economics: Chicago School vs Austrian School

That's actually the exact opposite of reality. Liberals for the most part are telling the powerful what they don't want to hear.

it depends on what are you considering a liberal, for the most part the radical liberals and radical conservatives aren't really listened to by powerfuls, and rightfully so...

My point was just that both Austrians (who are mostly ignored) and Chicago school guys (who do have a big voice) are just about telling the powerful what they want to hear, and a lot of people dream of doing that for a living and have a natural instinct to suck up to the powerful. A liberal outlook (in both broad and narrow terms) invariably puts one up against the powerful at times.

Hey, there's Robert Carradine's son on the far left.

Thats also relative... I doubt Nicolas Maduro would like to hear the chicago outlook on his econ policies

Nicolas Maduro isn't exactly what we think of as the ruling class, though. He's the inept leader of a people's power movement.

maybe not in America, but his populistic type of government has been seen time and time again with disasterous results.. (from peron to kirschner in argentina, from vargas to dilma today in brazil, we can even include some more violent governments in asia 30,40 years ago).. I don't see how he's not also part of a ruling political class

Not how I'd imagine. Surprisingly high proportion of women there.

I didn't even see the woman till I read your reply.

It's a great school of thought for bored white males who don't really need evidence to support their theory.

He's the leader in a developing nation who goes against the ruling class in his own country and the international ruling class. But, yeah, I'm sure a lot of the same people who are die-hard defenders of Austrian "economics" here would be socialists if they lived in Venezuela.

Funny. It's just basically a bunch of losers arguing about who should be sitting next to the throne telling the ruling class how great they are (not necessarily Friedman himself, but the people who follow these arguments--I've actually interacted with him a little and found him to be very thoughtful and gracious). In reality, both schools have taken a horrible beating through the crisis, getting almost everything wrong, and in obvious ways. But at least the Chicago guys aren't total idiots, and do occasionally offer solid insight.

I'm actually kind of surprised to see you say this, since I (a goddamn socialist) have a lot of respect for many Chicago School economists.

David Friedman...

I came across a picture of a bunch of Anarcho Caps who had lunch with him recently. They look exactly like you'd imagine.
