Ok...ive got a dilemma i cant seem to sort out. Im *trying* to get my madly wild diet under control. I have read and loosly follow berardis principals.I train 3-5 nights a week after work. Strength training 3 nights, cardio the others. Problem is...im supposed to eat a solid meal with protein and carbs AFTER working with heavy weights. Problem with that is...its about 8 or 9 pm before i get back from the gym after working all day. Morning workouts are not a possibility, neither is just a protein shake because i take one before i work out to get needed energy to lift! Has anyone else dealt with this before? Any help is appreciated!

Did you even state your problem? I have no clue what you are asking.

Just eat your dang food. That "no eating after 5 pm" or whatever rule is for Oprah Winfrey followers and has no bearing on real people who have jobs and train in the evening. It's a stupid "rule" that has no meaning in reality.

I believe even Berardi said he doesn't care when you eat as long as you are eating your meals. I don't remember exactly where I heard or read that but I believe it was on The FitCast and he said if one of your meals works out to be close to your bed time then eat before bed.

I recall hearing/reading the same thing. Post-workout nutrition is more important than an arbitrary rule about "no eating after a certain time".

oh. sorry. i thought my "problem was obvious...lol. if i eat at 9 or so...and go to bed at 10 or so....not only do i get indigestion...i get fatter from not usung up those carbs. i think...lol. im NOT skilled at nutrition..just trying to get up that learning curve. also...im 38 yo...so my metabolism aint what she used to be...

I have no clue how you thought we would know your problem of indigestion from your initial post. If that is the only time you can eat then that is the only time you can eat. Nothing earth shattering is going to happen, eat after training even if it is close to your bed time.

But if the indigestion keeps you up or otherwise causes trouble that affects you badly. Then you might want to rethink the time you eat.

exactly. im trying to rethink it. so far....not getting very far. i need to feed post workout. it gives me tummy issues. damned if i do....da...well u get the idea. as for the assumptions.....thats just my self absorbed way of "experiencing" the world around me. i assume everyone views the universe as i do, therefore understands where im coming from. im working on THAT issue as well.

if you really cant eat a pwo, then a pre workout immedietly before working out may be sufficient

but im SUPPOSED to eat pwo...muscle growth depends on it...as well as my carbs pwo. right???

Eat when you can dude, i dont buy into that no eating after a certain time.

Not so much. You don't have to slam a ton of carbs after. Just eat a meal with a relatively balanced profile of protein and carbs and some fats. For example a large spinach salad with other veggies on it, canned tuna with olive oil, and an apple.

There's your post-workout dinner. In fact, I'm going to eat that right now.

If you have tummy issues see about probiotics or something. The mod MikeMartial (sp?) is really old too, so he might have some more to say about this.

Mike's really that old? I thought he was late 20's-32 for some reason.

32 is pretty old relative to most people on here. I sometimes make fun of his age, but I think he's only a year or two older than me. Which still puts us about 10 years older than the average person asking questions.

<-- is middle aged by sherdogg standards...
