I have been training bjj for a few years. Every once in a while after a day of chokes or something my ears hurt and turn red (no cauliflower ear yet). What do you guys use for icing your ears? Just a bag of ice that you hold to your head?

redness and pain just mean irritation. Once the cartiliage seperates and you have swelling, you will get fluid in between the two layers(cauliflower). At that point the best thing to do is go to a doc, and get it drained. Depending on where in the ear the trauma is largely depends on whetehr it will reattach after draining. Outer ear cauliflower tends to better in that respect. If nothing is done in about 7 days after cauliflower develops. the fluid will harden and you will look awesome
