All the reviews I've read lauded the improved grappling system, but from my experience with it so far I fucking hate it.
Main gripe is you can't try to scramble to get up anytime and need to wait for a damn prompt, which shittily enough changes direction you need to press depending on situation.
Even last night against a buddy I couldn't stand up even though I was in full mount! It just wasn't an option.
I'm enjoying the stand up, hits feel meatier, but the new format of grappling, waiting on prompts is killing it for me

Am I missing something here? cause it seems to be universal praise in all the reviews.
What say ye, rate it or rock it?
Not the entire game, just the new grappling system

Standing up is always an option for the top.
You need to hold L1, then you will see the option (up on the stick)

I think they are moving in the right direction with the grappling, but it definitely feels clunky at times. Awkward pauses where you simply don't have the option to try anything, unresponsive denials, unresponsive GnP. I am getting a feel for it and enjoying it for the most part, but it does seem to need a little tweaking.

Hold L1 eh? Thanks, didn't know that. I'm sure I'll get used to it, and admittedly I skipped the tutorial after playing the last one to death. Assumed all I could do on the ground was whatever was available with the shown prompts.
I'll do that tutorial after work

L1 is a modifier in the grappling just like in the striking. More advanced transitions will be there a lot of the time, as well as throws and TDs from the clinch.

i dont care for the system. i dont like the grapple system, feels like a shitty mini game.

I find the transition blocking and reversals kinda lame. I like the undisputed grappling better I think (to be fair a lot of people hated it).

You can't stand up when you have your opponent in the sprawl position though, right? The only prompt I get is to do a guillotine choke.

I only just got it a day or two ago, but I'm finding it near impossible to block my opponent's transitions. Even using Werdum against Derick Lewis, he can just take my back from half-guard easy as pie. I didn't play the first EA Sports UFC game, so I have nothing to compare it to. Maybe it's just because I'm a noob, but I'm baffled by the grappling mechanics.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try some skill challenges

The grappling system does suck, Doesn't matter who I am or who I am against I can defend transitions, there's no icon either like it states, yet on practice mode I can. Bring back EA UFC 1, or any of the undisputed ones ffs

I go after those skill challenges like DC goes after Popeye's chicken. And just when I feel like I'm getting the hang of one position (half guard), they'll use some outta-this-world transition on me and somehow wind up on my back.

What's been your tactic for blocking transitions so far? I've been told to watch the animations which signal which transition they're about to attempt, but nine times out of ten I'm either too early or too late in blocking them. It just seems like the AI transition time has a ridiculously small window in order to deny them. Even when I'm a world class grappler going up against a white-belt.

better than the first, but still tough to master. the learning curve seems steeper too, anyone new to the series is dead in the water.
