A lot of americans don't have any social consciousness, they are just atomized consumers. Look the shit they protest, it's emblematic. They almost never protest laws that favor their oligarchic donor class overlords time and time again to the point billionaires now pay less taxes than wagies and are bailed out constantly, the slashing of environmental protections to please corporations, and countless other serious things that should concern actual citizens. But the moment they can't consume as usual for a couple of weeks in the face of a pandemic they are out in the streets larping with tactical vests and ar-15s, they are probably the most pacified and compliant people on Earth as long as you don't touch their consoomer's rights, as long as you don't do that they will not only tolerate any structural and systemic injustice but even reinforce them.
A yellow vests type scenario in the US would probably see counter-protestors (the same ''rebels'' who throw temper tantrums because they can't golf or get a haircut for a few weeks) calling them terrorists while bootlicking authority and defending the system.
