Any tips or tutorials on how to throw this correctly please?

From what I've noticed (which could be wrong), the body is bent forward so the head is off centre, the kicking leg is bent and the non-kicking hand doesn't come down as the person steps out. I've also found a lot of dutch guys in my gym don't really push off into their toes when they kick (some are downright flatfooted) or only turn their shoulders ever so slightly (although I'm not really sure if that is because they lack the technique or that's how the technique is meant to be).

In terms of stepping out, is the step meant to be wider than the traditional thai kick? I've heard the dutch kick is stronger than the thai variation - what is the secret to the power generation? What are some tips to mastering it? I know the trajectory of this kick is wider but it seems like it can be fired off after/in between punches without disrupting a wider stance - any tips?

P.S. Yes, I know its best if I ask an actual coach face to face but my gym is very thai style. My kru tuts at anyone who doesn't fight like a traditional thai lol

Dutch roundhouse isn't really a thing, it depends entirely on what gym you go to.

There isn't really any advantage to practising a 'dutch' roundhouse over a muay thai roundhouse, ultimately it's going to look very similar and have the same result - but you'll be better off looking at kyokushin roundhouse to get a technique that looks more like dutch kickboxing.

Care to correct it by giving me advice?
the "dutch" kick which is basically how they kick in Kyokushin, is stronger on the leg kick, mainly because they're putting their entire weight and drive into everything on the kick. Its strong, but you won't be able to be mobile after since you're planted heavily. Also you'd need to keep your head off the line and hands out perfectly, because if you get sloppy on those with yourself so based out, you're going to eat heavy shots for free.

For the middle kick (body), its not stronger imo, they're about the same. kicking hand coming down isn't great anyways, keeping it up serves as a counter weight. When you're kicking, you're trying to get your weight forward, but if your hands are going down and away, you're pulling your body back and won't get the generation you want.

But honestly, your description sounds more like a low kick, no way is that going to be well on a middle kick, angled off the line, leg bent? You're going to have balance issues on the kick

bas ruttens kicking tutorial is very good...bas is a kk black belt, and speaks about getting more power in the kick like you mentioned

Aerta definitely had a much different high kick than say Mirko.

It wasn’t the most aesthetically looking technique but it obviously KTFO of tons of fighters.

Yes, it's generally best just to kick the opponent competently.

Thanks Shincheckin (and others!)

For some of the videos, Bas' upper body looks like its almost horizontal - doesn't that impact on the speed it takes to get back into stance?

Also, is it correct to lean slightly forward (as though you are crunching your abs) for this type of kick?

I've been stepping much wider and almost jumping in it ("dropping" my weight as my lead foot steps 45 degrees) and there is a noticeable increase in power.

link me to his video your referring to I think theres 2 of his instructional kicking videos floating around the internet. one is better than the other IMO, and I cannot find the one I think is better again of course lol.

hop n chop, you can do it to the leg, body, or head. You can also kick the way Liam Harrison does to the leg as a alternative leg kicking method. It kinda like a "soccer kick" youll have to find his video on how to do it.

it was posted once by spacetime and then disappeared, i cant find it online either.

Yeah i think ive seen it. He twist his non kicking foot as he plant it right before he kicks.

I have no doubt that prime bas rutten kicked like horse. But that is a muscle kick made for a jacked guy kicking a scared target. Or a guy with very little kick defense.

IMHO

this is the video where he kicks almost sideways:

the way he kicks in both videos is fine. Not the video i was thinking of but he explains that swinging around like that provides maximum power. Swinging around vs swinging up.

the full video of this is the one i thin is really good. cant find it online though.

yeah i recently have been playing with mutliple different ways of throwing the same kick. why not try all ya know. Then you can use the appropriate one, at the appropriate time, if you trained it enough.

ahh man the girl in that video is amazing.....worth noting that Lucien Carbin has a KK background, I like his techniques.

There isn't one way to throw a "Dutch Kick" their are many different gyms in Holland with each fighter adding their own twist. It's more or less Muay Thai or Kyokushin.
