I transcribed as much of the audio as I could, between Todd having a mouthpiece in, inaudible dialogue, and changing camera angles, I couldn’t get 100% of the discussion... what I did get was interesting and changed my perspective.
This was my first thought.... Todd is a HW, he’s been KO’d before, yet he still swings for the fences, that isn’t necessarily the type of guy who’s going to want out of a fight. Add in he’s coming in from a long layoff, his UFC tenure maybe dependent on this performance.... it just doesn’t add up to wanting an out, he was just stalling for time and simply said the wrong things to the doc.
If that was the case, I’m all for the big guys getting a sip of gas to give us a better fight.
Todd just wanted to refill that chainsaw sized tank, within the rules as he was poked, smart....right?
They break after the poke
The ref tells Duff he’ll take a point for the fence grab
Duff acknowledges and when asked if he’s okay shakes his head no and says
“I’m seeing double”
Ref goes and gives the other fighter a warning, comes back to Duff
Duff says “just give me awhile, yeah”
Ref says “your good to go.”
Duff shakes his head no says “no... just give me some time”
Ref asks if he needs the physician
Again Duff says “ just give me some time”
Inaudible dialogue
Ringside Physician comes in
Doc says something to Duff that’s inaudible
Duff says to the doc “yeah I’m good”
Doc says “fair enough, sounds good... “hows your vision right now, hows your vision right now.”
Again Duff says “ just give me some time”
Doc repeats back to Duff “just give you time...?” I think we’re good...okay to go, we’ll keep an eye on you after the round”
Duff then inexplicably says “I’m seeing double...I’m seeing double out of my left eye”
Doc looks at ref and says questionably “he’s seeing double”
After this point it’s inaudible
the doc interacts with the ref and then finally puts his finger up and asks Duff something, Duff responds
Doc then waves the fight off

I may not be the most objective considering I remember Duffee’s first UFC fight and quick destruction of Hague... “feed me Dana”.
The threads hyping him as the “new breed” HW...
The near life ending atomic bomb that Russo landed on him, his cut, and him ending up back in the UFC, the near career ending health issues...ect. I’ve been rooting for the guy as a fighter, but also in life. I hope he gets a rematch because I thought he had the fight in hand until he expended all that energy chasing the finish/eye poke.
