    TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D

Release Date: January 4, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Suspense Horror

    Director: John Luessenhop (Takers, Lockdown)

Cast: Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Shaun Sipos, and Trey Songz

Synopsis: Picking up where the 1974 original film ends, the citizens of Newt, Texas decide to burn down the farm house of the Sawyer family for their role in aiding Jeb Sawyer, also known as Leatherface, in countless murders. The entire family is presumed dead with the exception of an infant, Heather Miller (Alexandra Daddario), who is placed with an adoptive family. Twenty years later, Heather learns of her adoption when a lawyer informs her that her long lost grandmother has left her an inheritance. Heather and her friends travel through Texas to pick up her inheritance, which, unknown to her, includes her cousin Leatherface.

Rotten Tomatoes: 19% Approval Rating (14 out of 72 critics like it)

Consensus: As an ugly and cynical attempt to rebrand Leatherface as horror anti-hero, Texas Chainsaw 3D is a bold move for the franchise.

    THE LAST STAND

Release Date: January 18, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Action Thriller

Director: Kim Jee-woon (I Saw the Devil, The Good, the Bad, the Weird)

Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker, Jaimie Alexander, Eduardo Noriega, Luis Guzman, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford, Genesis Rodriguez (mine!), Daniel Henney, Tait Fletcher, and Harry Dean Stanton

Synopsis: Sheriff Owens (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin (Eduardo Noriega) in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off.

Dragonlord's Review: Working with a straightforward script from Andrew Knauer, Jee-won delivers a high-octane contemporary western with several spectacular car chases and amusing shoot-outs. The Last Stand is an adequately entertaining experience with an even better action film buried inside. Extract Noriega's scenes, from his daring van escape to the exhilarating car chase sequences, and transform his character into a wrongly convicted protagonist and you have the blueprint of an even superior action film than The Last Stand. 7/10

Synopsis: Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) has a promising career as a New York City cop until the night he is involved in a controversial shooting. Stripped of his badge, but kept out of jail by New York's popular Mayor (Russell Crowe), he re-makes himself as a private investigator. Times are tough, and when the mayor offers Billy $50,000 to investigate the First Lady's (Catherine Zeta Jones) extra-marital activities, it seems like a straight forward payday. HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS

Release Date: January 25, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Fantasy Comedy Horror Adventure

Director: Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Kill Buljo: The Movie )

Cast: Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare, Zoe Bell, and Thomas Mann

Synopsis: After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches...their past.

Heavyarms21's Review Okay this film is very cheesy, but it embraces that, the movie is a mess, but I like its entertainment value, it was more gory than I thought it would be and the action sequences were pretty well done. The story is average and nothing innovative. I think that Gemma Arteron and Jeremy Renner, know the story is less than stellar so you get the sense that they said fuck it, lets have fun. 7/10

CrazyJHL's Review: One of the stronger elements of this film is that the script is hilarious. The main drawback, one that truly ruins the movie, is the action sequences. Not only was it fun, but it brings in some interesting elements to this type of film, including Arterton, and brings some genuine laughs. 7/10

    PARKER

Release Date: January 25, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Crime Action Thriller

Director: Taylor Hackford (Ray, Blood In, Blood Out, The Devil's Advocate)

Cast: Jason Statham, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Chiklis, Clifton Collins Jr., Wendell Pierce, and Nick Nolte

Synopsis: A thief with a unique code of professional ethics is double-crossed by his crew and left for dead. Assuming a new disguise and forming an unlikely alliance with a woman on the inside, he looks to hijack the score of the crew's latest heist. Donald Westlake's pulp hero Parker is once again brought to the big screen in this thriller from director Taylor Hackford (Ray). Jason Statham picks up the Parker mantle from other iconic actors who have played him through the years -- most notably Lee Marvin in Point Blank and Mel Gibson in Payback.

    MOVIE 43

Release Date: January 25, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Ensemble Comedy

Director: Elizabeth Banks, Peter Farrelly, Brett Ratner, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Patrik Forsberg, Jonathan van Tulleken and James Gunn

Synopsis: Take a hilarious director, add a brilliant cast, mix in some twisted jokes, remove all boundaries, and then stand back...way back. In Movie 43, comedy is served steaming hot (literally) by director Peter Farrelly of The Farrelly Brothers (Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber) in one of the most shocking, original, and dangerous comedies ever made. Movie 43 is jaw-dropping, uproarious, outrageous fun. Warning: not for the weak-stomached, faint of heart, or easily offended.

    JOHN DIES AT THE END

Release Date: January 25, 2013 (Limited Release)

Synopsis: It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't.

Anung Un Rama's Review A pretty trippy B-Movie, so trippy in fact that its difficult to give a thorough review. A group of friends survive a cross-dimension invasion attempt and are granted powers of precognition and some other shit. Not terrible but low budget and vague. I don't know if it seemed vague because of the story or the editing or both. I could see this becoming a cult classic amongst bath salt crowd. 5/10

    WARM BODIES

Release Date: February 1, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Zombie Horror Comedy

Director: Jonathan Levine (50/50, The Wackness)

Cast: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Rob Corddry, Analeigh Tipton, and Dave Franco

Synopsis: A funny new twist on a classic love story, WARM BODIES is a poignant tale about the power of human connection. After a zombie epidemic, R (a highly unusual zombie) encounters Julie (a human survivor), and rescues her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human - setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.

Dragonlord's Review: Director Jonathan Levine, who helmed the fantastic dramedy 50/50, injects the film with wry humor, poignant song choices and a few thrilling action sequences. Purists probably will take offense to the film's liberal application of zombie rules. But if you are open-minded enough to accept the difference, Warm Bodies is a charming romantic comedy that puts a refreshingly lighthearted spin on the zombie genre glazed with indie overtones and an exuberant sweet center. 8/10

    IDENTITY THIEF

Release Date: February 8, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Comedy

Director: Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters)

Cast: Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Genesis Rodriguez, John Cho, Amanda Peet, and Jon Favreau

Synopsis: Unlimited funds have allowed Diana (McCarthy) to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There's only one glitch: The ID she's using to finance these sprees reads "Sandy Bigelow Patterson"....and it belongs to an accounts rep (Bateman) who lives halfway across the U.S. With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.

CrazyJHL's Review: Overall, this film is worth a rental. Too many lulls and plot points for it to be scored any higher. Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy do a decent job with what they have to work with, a shitty script. Honestly, this is an R-rated comedy, I don't need a crazy feel good ending, so don't force it, let bad things happen, it's cool. 6/10

    SIDE EFFECTS

Release Date: February 8, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Mystery Suspense Thriller

Director: Steven Soderbergh (Contagion, Ocean's Eleven, Traffic)

Cast: Channingn Tatum, Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Vinessa Shaw, and Catherine Zeta-Jones

Synopsis: SIDE EFFECTS is a provocative thriller about Emily and Martin (Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum), a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily's psychiatrist (Jude Law) - intended to treat anxiety - has unexpected side effects.

Ufcfan4's Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Side Effects unfolds in a very gripping manner. I think at the heart of things is a solid script but its really the actors and the prowess of Soderbergh as a filmmaker that help to make the story as engaging and entertaining as it is. Jude Law is excellent in this film.

Shot's Review: First off, the cast was very good. I thought the story played out very well and had some pretty decent twists and turns, although a couple of conveniences did pop up. Soderbergh knows how to tell a good story and he definitely did here. Definitely a movie to recommend on a saturday night. 7.5/10

Anung Un Rama's Review: We all know something is coming while watching this movie, we just don't know exactly what it will be. By the time the twist comes you don't even care. The movie is pretty monotone and drags like you don't even wanna know. Jude Law does an excellent job. I would give it a 5/10 but Mara showed me teh boobs. 6/10

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD

Release Date: February 14, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Action Crime Thriller

Director: John Moore (Flight of the Phoenix, Behind Enemy Lines, Max Payne)

Cast: Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, Sebastian Koch, Cole Hauser, Amaury Nolasco, and Megalyn Echikunwoke

Synopsis: Since the first "Die Hard" in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.

Dragonlord's Review: While director John Moore orchestrates a few impressive action set pieces, there’s very little in the way of excitement or suspense and isn’t able to produce any genuine danger. There are sporadic glimpses of the old John McClane, but this version is a long way from the shoeless New York cop who broke down in the Nakatomi Plaza bathroom. Back then, we had an everyman hanging on by a thread. Here, he’s an invincible super-cop. The least enjoyable in the franchise, A Good Day to Die Hard’s spectacle-fuelled silliness can’t overcome its bland story and dull characters. 5/10

    SNITCH

Release Date: February 22, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Action Drama Thriller

Director: Ric Roman Waugh (Felon, In the Shadows)

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Harold Perrineau, Jon Bernthal, Nadine Velasquez, Michael Kenneth Williams, Benjamin Bratt, Barry Pepper, Judd Lormand, JD Pardo, and Melina Kanakaredes

Synopsis: In the fast-paced action thriller SNITCH, Dwayne Johnson stars as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission -- risking everything, including his family and his own life.

Heavyarms21's Review: The story is pretty straight forward and I liked the flow of it. I thought the cast was solid throughout and worked well together, (I liked Barry Pepper as the Head DEA Agent and John Bernthal as the Rocks connection to the drug dealers). Also I gotta commend the Rock for showing a vulnerability which I didn't know he could portray, before this I would have said that The Gridiron Gang was his best performance in Snitch he feels more polished and you can tell he has been working on it. 10/10

    DARK SKIES

Release Date: February 22, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Mystery Suspense Horror

    Director: Scott Stewart (Priest, Legion)

Cast: Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo, Kadan Rockett, Trevor St. John, and J.K. Simmons

Synopsis: From the producer of Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and Sinister comes Dark Skies: a supernatural thriller that follows a young family living in the suburbs. As husband and wife Daniel and Lacey Barret witness an escalating series of disturbing events involving their family, their safe and peaceful home quickly unravels. When it becomes clear that the Barret family is being targeted by an unimaginably terrifying and deadly force, Daniel and Lacey take matters in their own hands to solve the mystery of what is after their family.

Shot's Review: The movies strength lies in its 2nd act. It draws some very good moments from a few tense scenes, some damn decent acting from Josh Hamilton and especially Keri Russell, and a super creepy, spine tingling scene with J.K. Simmons. Overall, if you're a fan of horror movies, especially of the modern vein, I say you can catch it on DVD or even a matinee and be reasonably entertained and happy. For anyone else, the cons will definitely outweigh the pros. 6.3/10

    JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

Release Date: March 1, 2013 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Fantasy Action Adventure

Director: Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, X2: X-Men United)

Cast: Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eddie Marsan, Raine McCormack, Ewen Bremmer, Ralph Brown, John Kassir, Ben Daniels, and Warwick Davis

Synopsis: An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend-and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

Dragonlord's Review: Nicholas Hoult is charming and likable as the lead but it's Stanley Tucci who steals the show as the delightfully villainous Lord Roderick. The opening animated exposition was shockingly horrible for a film with this kind of production values. Some of the giants' character designs were just awful and looked unconvincing and fake-ish. The last 20 minutes were exciting as the giants finally cut loose on the human world. Overall, Jack the Giant Slayer is fun and entertaining family adventure film but underwhelming and lacks an edginess to it that would have elevated it. 7/10

    TO THE WONDER

Release Date: April 12 (Limited Release)

    Genre: Romantic Drama

Director: Terrence Malick (Tree of Life, The Thin Red Line, The New World)

Cast: Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem, and Charles Baker,

Synopsis: TO THE WONDER tells the story of Marina (Kurylenko) and Neil (Affleck), who meet in France and move to Oklahoma to start a life together, where problems soon arise. While Marina makes the acquaintance of a priest and fellow exile (Bardem), who is struggling with his vocation, Neil renews a relationship with a childhood sweetheart, Jane (McAdams). Bold and lyrical, the film is a moving, gorgeously shot exploration of love in its many forms. Written and directed by Terrence Malick.

Comments: Terrence Malick's To The Wonder premiered at last year's Venice Film Festival to mixed reception. Some complained that leading man Ben Affleck had less than 10 lines and that the film was nothing but voiceovers. Others complained that the film is nothing but visual doodling without focused thematic goals. I'm not in a rush to see the film but I found the trailer to be beautifully moving. The stunning visual imagery and fantastic cinematography are simply breathtaking.

Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands. Oblivion was shot in stunning digital 4K resolution on location across the United States and Iceland.

[ur=http://forums.sherdog.com/forums/81804139-post555.html]My Review:[/url] Borrowing elements from other sci-fi movies, Oblivion is a downright gorgeous film that aspires to blend crowd-pleasing action with grander themes of isolation and identity but falls a bit short with the third act. The world of Oblivion is visually stunning, from the breathtaking landscapes to the haunting city ruins that has evolved beyond recognition to the incredible cinematography by Claudio Miranda. The special effects are top notch, the frantic aerial action scenes are well-staged and the set design is just magnificent. Fantastic score by M83. 8/10

Dragonlord's Review: A huge improvement over the disappointing second film, Iron Man 3 is an entertaining techno thriller with a refreshing back-to-basics approach, some breathtaking actions sequences and surrounded by a terrific cast but the bland music, its refusal to have a more serious tone and Tony Stark’s constant flippant attitude hinder the film from being a great experience. 7.5/10

Release Date: May 10 (Wide Release)

    Genre: Comedy

    Director: Tina Gordon Chism

Synopsis: After a year of living together, Wade Walker wants to propose to his girlfriend, Grace Peeples. Grace is hesitant about introducing Wade to her ambitious, upper crust family, so when she leaves to attend an annual reunion at her parents' swanky compound, Wade decides to show up uninvited and charm his potential in-laws while slipping a ring on Grace's finger. Unfortunately, Wade's plans don't go exactly as he'd envisioned and he soon realizes that his only hope of marrying Grace means a face-off with Judge Peeples, Grace's disapproving dad who won't accept anything less than the very best for his daughter.
