Seriously underrated series, hasn't made a major release in the west since I was in elementary school. The art is absolutely beautiful, music is great and it preserves so many traditional jrpg game mechanics you feel like you are back in the 90s. I've been having a great time playing this game.

Really fun if you like jrpgs like final fantasy (older ones) and persona 5.

I really want this game but I'm still on Dungeon 4 of Persona 5 and I still haven't opened up Tales of Beseria yet. Maybe I'll pick it up if there is a Black Friday deal.

I played DQ 1-6, and tried 7 and the whole 3d Playstation was just to oawkward and visually awful. 11 looks really good though did anyone play 10 and can confirm if it was good or not?

10 and 11 are very different, 10 is more action paced while 11 is turn based

    Here is the prologue

    I like turn based.

To be honest, DQ11 looks like it has the potential to be an amazing game. Any idea how long the playthrough is?

Ive read about 60-80hrs, really depends on your pacing. Im a slow paced person and I just got to to the first city. There are also hardcore difficulty addons that you can put to make the game harder and therefore longer.

I'm 6 hours in and I love it so far.

Only downside is I find some of the VO to be subpar, or downright annoying. Gemma in particular makes my ears bleed.

Is the normal mode too easy or should someone who has played many JRPGs put it into the harder mode?

Idk if it's just me but I find voice acting in almost all JRPG's insufferable. Love the games but the voice acting always annoys the piss out of me.

Theres always that one character in jrpgs that has a high pitched squealing voice that just gets under my skin. Lol

Usually, I can get behind the VO..but man, the beginning of DQ was tough solely because of Gemma’s voice.

I’m with you when it comes to the high pitched character haha

I honestly say start these games pretty much as hard as you can and adjust the settings as you move along.

If you play these games on normal it gets boring kinda quick cause you can usually get through using basic attacks and spells and it kind of detracts from alot of the combat because you only need to use a few moves.

I play with tougher enemies, its pretty fun. Legit feel like I must be in top shape and train all the time. Ganna try a no-death playthrough, already failed last night.

You can mute voices by lowering them in the sound options

I pre-ordered months ago then stupidly started Radiant Historia a few weeks back and I'm nowhere near done it so I can't start DQXI just yet... but I'm super excited. I just don't want to have two RPGs on the go.

DQ is one of, if not my favorite series of all time. This one looks amazing and I can't wait to start it.

Yes, normal mode is stupid easy. I'm like 8 hours in and even the bosses die in like 3 or 4 turns on normal mode. The only other complaint is the music is AWFUL. Like really really bad. Everything else about the game is fantastic as a fan of jrpgs

I have IX on DS and it was solid.

I like this series better than Final Fantasy not just because of DBZ Akira Toriyama character designs.

I'm almost done with GBC Dragon Warrior I.

Does XI have some sort of casino like place where you could sort of gamble to make some credits? Alchemy pot? Teleportation magic spell?

Just picked it up and super pumped to get started. FInishing up Ys VIII, so I should be able to start next weekend or so. There hasn't been a good fantasy turn based JRPG in a while. Persona 5 was great, but the present day setting doesn't quite scratch the same itch. Ni No Kuni II was a great fantasy JRPG, but the action oriented combat system was too button mashey. I get that the turn based battle system is dated, but it just brings me back to the days Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior back on the NES when I was a kid.
