What are your thoughts on Dr Kevorkian?

Do you agree with what he did? Against it?

From what I recall he was a bit unhinged whether you believe assisted suicide is fine or not. If the individual is of sound mind and they are in a medical hell and likely slowly dying anyway it's really not my business and up to the individual.

Does he take Obama care?

Good guy. If someone wants to die who are we to tell them no

I was young when he was in the news, and even then I was confused why he was getting in trouble. I get how their could be shady people who would try to off someone for insurance or whatever, but it was weird how people would look at putting an old, suffering animal down as "the right and humane thing to do" but the idea of extending that same courtesy to those of our own species is frowned upon.

Great intentions. But should have done some things differently. He could have helped push to change laws to help these people. Instead he only focused on what filled his bank account. I can't help but question how much he really wanted to help.

I never understand the importance of legalizing suicide, why not do it illegally? Are they going to arrest your corpse?

With that said, if someone wants to die they should be allowed to do so, especially when they are already dying.

I think he was ahead of his time. Society wasn't ready for the things that he was doing, but I think that we are getting there now. Euthanasia is obviously a very touchy subject filled with a lot of moral and ethical questions, but I think more people are believing in a "right to die" than existed when Dr. K was charged and tried.

According to a report by the Detroit Free Press, 60% of the patients who committed suicide with Kevorkian's help were not terminally ill, and at least 13 had not complained of pain. The report further asserted that Kevorkian's counseling was too brief (with at least 19 patients dying less than 24 hours after first meeting Kevorkian) and lacked a psychiatric exam in at least 19 cases, 5 of which involved people with histories of depression...

I agree. I think he was doing a good thing but maybe for the wrong reasons.

Basically everything I know about him came from this biopic starring Pacino. Seems like his intentions were good, but some of the death contraptions he came up felt a little "medieval."

I'm okay with it... probably better than someone blowing their brains out all over the wall and having one of their family members walk in to find it.

Dude was providing a service.

A necessary evil of sorts

Some people just don't want to live..and that's ok

If you're going to put it verbatim from wiki you should put it in quotes. All of the patient deaths were recorded and he was not the person administering the actual cocktail, it was the patient. Everybody is terminal and I believe he was just allowing an accelerated road to the end. He facilitated the wants of people who were able to voluntarily acknowledge consent meaning all patients knew what was happening and accepted it. I'm an advocate for Kevorkian because he was an advocate for patients.

Good (definitely don't consider him to have been bad).

Took a lot of guts to do what he did and he helped a lot of people when nobody else would.

It's just unfortunate that he was a weirdo and socially awkward, and thus not a great spokesman for his own cause.

I saw the thread title and loaded up the pilfers then I opened it and saw you beat me to it.

I think Dr Jack did the right thing. Terminal suffering people should have a choice.

He took an ethical approach to what he was doing, so yeah I'm fine with it. The dude had some weird paintings though. He was a decent artist, but his works are kind of creepy.
