So frustrated. I used to be able to plug in my iPhone to my PC (Windows 10) and a little box would come up in the bottom right to import new photos. I could tag them all with a date and it would only import new ones. I don't know what changed but that doesn't come up anymore. Now, I've been trying to use Windows Photos which is so frustrating. It doesn't remember what I've imported and half the time it says the import failed.

Can someone help me out here? What's an easy way to download from the iPhone to the PC? Thanks.

sync to icloud, download via your browser on PC by logging into icloud.

iPhone and win7 user here.

I plug in my iPhone and a box comes up on the iPhone asking if I allow this machine to access my photos.

You don’t get that?

Yes, in the past. It connects, but I keep getting this "something went wrong your photos may not have been imported" halfway through importing photos from the iPhone to the PC using Windows Photos. I'm about to rage break my phone and computer.

This might sound stupid but have you restarted your phone? Mine wouldn’t open my iCloud 3 weeks ago, restarted it and it worked fine

It would help greatly if f'ing Apple put some concise clear instructions on exactly how to do this. I got it working on the second attempt after seeing the first write up didn't mention a key step.

Here's how to do it:

1. Unlock the iPhone so you can do stuff without entering password because it's unlocked.

2. Connect USB to Lightning cable to the phone and plug the USB to the PC.

3. iPhone should have some message asking for the phone to trust the computer. Pick yes/ok.

4. If you don't see the phone in the computer Windows Explorer, unplug the USB and plug it back in. The phone should now be recognized by the PC as long as the phone is still unlocked and the phone should let you cut and paste pics and vids from phone to PC just like it was another digital camera. Poke around in the phone's folders until you find the .jpeg and .mov files.

Roundabout way is email it to you and download from the email

I always hated apple for this. It was the same shit with the iPod when it came out. I remember with mp3 players it was so easy to transfer music. Drag and drop. But then apple came with their itunes or icloud bullshit you have to sync. Half the time it ended up deleting what was on there.

This works. Thank you. It's just a huge pain. What happened to being able to plug in the iPhone, a box comes up that says "import new photos," and it only imports the new ones? It was like an auto-play or something. But that was on Windows 7 so did they do away with it for Windows 10?

You're welcome bro. No idea on the other method. I'm just glad you can cut and paste from phone to PC.

From what I've seen on the web, you can't change the photo resolution, so I guess it's always taking using the highest res. I noticed one photo I took also captured like a few seconds of video either before or after. That could be dangerous.
