You know, that guy that treats rolling like he's fucking Wanderlei Silva trying to rape choke your mother.

There's this guy at my gym that is a huge dick on the mat. Whenever we roll at the end of class, this guy gets his elbows in my face, my throat, etc. Instead of staying calm and working technique, he breaths extremely heavy, grunts like crazy, and makes sudden, jerky movements, literally slamming me against the mat trying to escape subs. I'm not totally blaming him, I guess he just gets really intense and gets "in the zone", but common now.

He makes me want to break off his limbs so he doesn't train anymore, but whatever.

Any stories?

Sounds like your average spaz. If he's in your guard and puts his forearm on your throat (no gi), either armbar his ass, or shove the arm across and sit up and lock in the arm triangle. It's a little harder finishing the arm triangle from guard, but its a good move.

Training like that will hinder his development. The joke's on him in the long run.

what ive come to realize is the majority of the people dont really care for their long term "development", they just want to make their dick bigger by smashing people for a little while....until something not too important comes up and they quit bjj alltogether. Then they have stories for years how "back when i trained bjj, i was a phenom..."

I think its like one in 500 people that will make it to blackbelt...maybe even less...

Yeah I know, but our classes are very close-knit with few people to roll with so I feel like he's hindering me as well.

I agree. Add in the people who drop out after their first real grappling related injury and the number of quitters grows. I'm not talking about the people who physically can't roll after a bad injury, but the people who give others bumps, bruises, tears, or worse and then quit when they get a hyperextended arm or a twisted ankle. -ken

To me, the spaz is a special gift given to those who like to be evil.

I just neutralize them and then make them work harder. My special bonus is if they puke after we roll. Subbing them is easy, making them puke takes a little more dedication. -ken

I like those guys.

They give me an excuse to bitch on message boards.

I dunno, I usually just whip out my schlong and jizz in their eye. Stops 'em pretty fast.

May not work so well when I move to the San Franscisco area though...

I just armbar them, get picked up, slammed, cry for awhile, then ask the instructor to beat them up.

If the majority of people you roll with are like this, you might want to find a new gym.

It's the exact opposite where I train. Everyone is laid back and wants to improve, not to just win a roll and brag about how they tapped so and so. Everyone knows it's just training, and not to go balls to the wall like it's competition or crank a leg lock, or some other dick shit.

I haven't rolled with any dickheads/spazzers in the 3 or so month I've been training here (ATT PSL). I haven't heard any stories or observed anyone doing that kind of shit. We are a tight group.

having one or two guys like this actually helps you in my opinion.... now training in a group like this is a nightmare.

In wrestling we called these people "super partners" like when we are drilling takedowns for technique, the kid just power doubles and slams you into the mat.

I have a guy like this in my gym, last week he told me, "I wouldn't have tapped to that if it was in competition." I had no idea what to say to that, he then proceeded to spaz again and I finished with a kimura and took it as slow and easy as possible, making sure that it was something he WOULD have tatpped to in competition.

I welcome pricks like that, the triangle is always open for them :D :D. Submit him HARD!

Also it sounds from the description like it's a big guy on top of you being a spaz. Instead of playing guard, try working your top game on the guy. It'll be a lot harder for him to slam you against the mat from there.

I find that with guys like that the absolute best thing to do isn't to submit them quickly...but to control them until they give up on life. Put them in side mount, or mount and just hold them there. Let them spaz and breath heavy and just relax. Eventually they get tired and will give you a submission, then take it.

It's a bigger shot to the ego (especially for a big strong guy) to be dominated and controlled. When you sub him quick he can rationalize it as "I just got caught". When you dominate him for like 10 minutes he has no excuse.
