Last year, University of California president Janet Napolitano’s office discouraged students from using the expression “America is the land of opportunity” because it is a microaggression.
Derald Sue, a professor at Columbia University, is reportedly the first scholar to have come up with the term “microaggressions” in 2007. In an interview with Fox News, Sue said using statements such as “America is the land of opportunity” is “offensive” because it disregards the full perspective of minorities.
